Pence issued a statement on X, criticizing Trump’s announcement that he did not support a federal ban on abortion.
“President Trump’s retreat on the Right to Life is a slap in the face to the millions of pro-life Americans who voted for him in 2016 and 2020,” Pence wrote in his statement:
By nominating and standing by the confirmation of conservative justices, the Trump-Pence Administration helped send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs and gave the pro-life movement the opportunity to compassionately support women and unborn children.

“But today, too many Republican politicians are all too ready to wash their hands of the battle for life,” Pence continued. “However much our Republican nominee or other candidates seek to marginalize the cause of life, I know pro-life Americans will never relent until we see the sanctity of life restored to the center of American law in every state in this country.”
Pence’s statement came hours after Trump announced in a video posted to Truth Social on Monday that the decision of abortion would be left up to the states to “determine by vote or legislation.”

“My view is: Now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land,” Trump said in his video, adding that “many states” would differ in their laws and positions on abortion.
“At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people,” Trump added. “You must follow your heart, or in many cases, your religion or your faith.”
“Do what’s right for your family, and do what’s right for yourself. Do what’s right for your children. Do what’s right for our country, and vote — so important to vote.”
Trump continued in his video to thank Kavanaugh, Coney Barrett, and Gorsuch — along with other Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and John Roberts — for being “incredible people” who had the “courage to allow” the “50-year battle over Roe v. Wade” to end.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R- SC) also responded to Trump’s video in a post on X, saying that he “respectfully” disagreed that abortion was a “states’ rights issue.”
“Dobbs does not require that conclusion legally and the pro-life movement has always been about the wellbeing of the unborn child – not geography,” Graham wrote in his post.
In response to Graham’s statement, Trump wrote in another post on Truth Social that the South Carolina senator “should spend more time focusing on all of the many people being killed because of our now non-existent Border, and the millions of people dying in senseless, never-ending Wars.”
Trump added that the Democrats are “thrilled with Lindsey” because they want the issue of abortion to “simmer for as long a period of time as possible.”
That’s easy to say when you’re not running for president
Speaking of experts in “slap in the face...”
Pence sure turned out to be a complete dick.
Not only is “30 Pences” a back-stabbing POS - he doesn’t understand the US Constitution.
This guy had sex with Mare Pete.
Has Pence said who he’s voting for?
Will he vote for Trump, Brandon, or RFK?
He’s joined the “If I can’t have it, neither can he” clan.
I can’t say I disagree. It’s still better than Biden’s position, but it is far from pro-life.
Trump got it right.
Pence is a politician, just like Graham.
They want abortion to remain a federal politial issue so they can campaign and fundraise on it.
Leaving it to the states (which is proper) shifts the donations down to the local and state level instead.....and people like Pence/Graham are all about donations before ideology.
Hey, Mike, check this out ... you may want to educate yourself
President Trump’s statement on abortion represents the constitutional and legal status before the Supreme Court nationalized the issue in Roe v. Wade. It is what conservatives have been demanding for half a century — that is, the reversal of Roe. The constitutionalists on the Supreme Court are to be credited for what they did, and they came under enormous pressure and threats to change their ultimate decision. If we are to now insist on a federal law to prevent all abortions (and I oppose abortion), it is strange indeed to expect that the radicals won’t use federal law to impose Roe and beyond on the entire country. After all, they control the federal Leviathan, we don’t. They can and will reverse anything a Republican Congress and presidency might do. Furthermore, litigation can ensue in state courts under state constitutions. The action is now in the states. This won’t be resolved in Washington and never could be, whether by the Court or the Congress. Nor will it be resolved in this post

President Trump’s superb statement on abortion

Pence always talks tough but he folded like a paper bad when he had the opportunity to defend the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act. He always fails when it comes time to put his money where his mouth is.
Trump should play to his strengths and avoid endless minefields like abortion.
His presidency had a success in overturning Roe v Wade and returning it to the States. That’s what he is saying now.
If he wants to deal with it further later on that’s fine but first he must get reelected.
You hit the nail right on the head. It’s why no problem ever gets solved.
C’m on man, my first name is Richard and I go by a nickname...
Pence Sterling = 0.012058 US dollar. Thats 1.2 cents.
A light weight, light in the loafers, radio show clown. He already failed in every capacity as VP including NASA. A lightweight full of himself Race Bannon (see: Johnny Quest cartoons, he’s in them. His meme).
1. The underlying argument against Roe v. Wade by the “pro life” side was that abortion is NOT a Federal issue but should be addressed by the states. Pence comes across as a duplicitous moron when he makes a statement like this that UNDERMINES the successful legal argument that won the day in the U.S. Supreme Court.
2. A Federal abortion ban may very well be overturned in a 9-0 decision in the current Supreme Court that includes six justices who overturned Roe. See Item #3 below.
3. Except in rare cases, murder charges are adjudicated in state courts … because they involve violations of STATE criminal codes. I’d like Mike Pence to explain with a straight face why there should be a Federal statute to outlaw abortion when there is no Federal statute to outlaw the murder of a random school-age child anywhere in the U.S.
