I think the most shocking story I read about squatters in NYC was a couple who went on vacation for two weeks and came back and the squatters have moved in. They both couldn’t even get in to get their laptops, and files to do their business when they returned, and the police wouldn’t let them get any of their belongings, items in their safe, and car keys. They lost everything including their home. And the law was on the side of the squatters.

When are about 150 home owners with weapons going to stand up and fight for their God given rights and property? Oh, that’s right, they voted for this crap.

To paraphrase JFK: Those who make peaceful resolution of such impositions impossible, make violent resolution inevitable.

This all reminds me of scenes from Dr. Zhivago, I was wondering when it would come to that, I guess it has in New York.

If squatters are careless and accidentally burn down the home they occupy, does the insurance settlement go to the squatter, or to the homeowner? Asking for a friend.

There was some brave talk in an earlier thread about NYC squatters. Baseball bats, ax handles, guns, castle doctrine, the five NY criminal families, late night visits by several big, hairy friends...all mentioned as solutions to this problem.

This should run off those anonymous bloviators. You can’t even turn off the utilities YOU’RE PAYING FOR...or you’ll go to jail.

New York City homeowners are being pushed to financial limits that allow squatters to live rent-free. At the same time, the owners are forced to keep paying electricity and maintenance bills for the apartments.

And yet I'd bet the Republican vote this fall won't increase by more than 10%, if that.

Organize. Do it anyway. What’s the worst that can happen? You get out immediately with no bail and a clogged up court system. Flood the courts.
Why not go a step further and kick them out and have them charged for criminal damage and sue civilly. You won’t get anything but you get your property back.

Stop paying the bills. Let the utility services turn them off.

The middle class is being targeted for no other reason than it’s the middle class. Lenin would be delighted.

Just wait until the illegal aliens figure out that they can do nightly raids on suburban homes to terrorize homeowners to flee. Then occupy the empty houses. Welcome newcomers.

Don’t pay the bill - then it’s the company turning it off and not the owner.

There’s creative and legal ways to deal with this.

Dear Squatters,

I have 3 homes, that means 2 are empty when I am not there. IO am old and a LIFE Sentence for Murder will not be a very long sentence for me.

Good Luck

Had my first squatter experience this week

my neighbors sister (who I also know) and her husband, bought a condo in another state, and were moving into it, leaving their first home empty for a couple months, in preparation to sell it

I know the area well, and have been to their house. In the past two months, squatters moved in. Its a nice house, in a nice neighborhood - which of course doesn’t matter to these squatter parasites.

In fact, it probably helps the squatters - because middle class white people are polite and nice and afraid too offend even if they see something isn’t right
