Trump says abortion should be decided by the states, 'will of the people'

Former President Donald Trump on Monday announced his position on whether abortion should be banned, following months of not taking a stance on the combustible and crucial issue in his 2024 rematch with President Biden.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee took to his social media platform on Sunday night to say that he would issue a statement on "abortion and abortion rights." In video posted Monday morning, Trump explicitly affirmed his support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and he emphasized his support for states determining their own laws for abortion so long as there are exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.

"The states will determine by vote, or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land – in this case, the law of the state," Trump said. Many states will be different.

Until we’re about to SHUT DOWN the women coming out of our universities, this is the best we can hope for. Anything stronger is SUICIDE for Republicans.

> Up until the 1860’s, slavery was left up to each state to decide. That didn’t work out well either.<

That wasn’t decided by 5 dudes in black robes. It was a very difficult to achieve process. The people spoke loudly.

One thing this does is take away the democrats biggest campaign issues for this election. “Donald Trump and republicans want to ban abortion”.

Yep...this is the smartest thing Trump could do. The bottom line is that if Abortion is ever to be dealt with in a civil manner, the law must come from the people...not a handful of oligarchs in black robes.

Just so.

North Dakota will outlaw abortion.

California will mandate abortion.

You’re not paying for anyone else’s abortion, unless you choose to do so. The Hyde Amendment prevents that.

Yes, this is probably the best answer he could have given and probably tempers a lot of opposition

I support him for president but based on some of his history I’m almost surprised this was his answer-well done

Trump can make a great case for state’s rights on this issue. He can say to California ‘why do you think that you can force your abortions on oklahoma?’

Stop listening to the Marxists. Like slavery, the unborn need federal protection from murder. There are states passing abortion after birth.
This will result in mass euthanasia. These same laws will kill you if you get sick, old, nonproductive.

That might be true but if the left wins another election this year it’s gonna get way worse

At this time this is likely the best that can happen

I am glad he took that position. Like Alito’s decision, it is a matter for the states. What does it say to the pro-life movement? Trump will likely not support federal legislation on abortion. That is as it should be in my opinio. The largest work ahead for the pro-life movemnet, is, in my view, winning over public opinion - a cultural battle more than a legal one.

Giving states the right to remove all restrictions on abortion if they so choose.

‘will of the people’

He’s spot on it’s We The People not the government the Constitution was wrote to protect us from it.

Biden and party are proof of what happens when they make all the rules.

He needs to go further and say that the government needs to stay out of it. Say whatever he has to for stupid white females to relax or at least not come out angry to vote Biden. Abortion is a sure loser issue. He must be elected or this nation is finished, if it is even salvageable now.

They can rig state elections just like they do national elections.

Oh, please. These pro-abortion referendums are passing fair and square.

Abortion rights have always been more popular among the general voting public than the pro-lifers were willing to admit.

Trump is 100% right on this, I should add. Leave it up to the states. The issue is hurting us.

We must politically emphasize the abortion issue
into what it really is....a “lifestyle” issue.

Murder is a State Charge. While there are Federal charges for murder under certain special circumstances, it is normally a State charge.
