The IDF on Sunday announced that it had concluded the active invasion stage of the war for now while leaving open the possibility of a future new invasion of Rafah in deep southern Gaza.
Although a top IDF official said that this change had nothing to do with US pressure, the timing was unmistakable in coming right after the IDF’s disastrous mistaken killing of seven humanitarian aid workers last week.
Critically, this means that Palestinians can, on one hand, move freely within southern Gaza and Khan Yunis and that there is a complete vacuum for preventing a return of Hamas governance, but the IDF is keeping northern and central Gaza cut off from the south.
Hamas immediately declared the IDF withdrawal, even partial, a victory for sticking to its position of demanding IDF withdrawals, including of troops in northern Gaza.
The world’s attention will likely now shift to whether the IDF will invade Rafah first, whether Hamas will cut a deal for the hostages to avoid such an invasion, or whether Israel will concede further to Hamas’s demands for returning more Palestinians to northern Gaza.

JERUSALEM, April 7 (Reuters) - The Israeli military has withdrawn all ground troops from the southern Gaza Strip except for one brigade, a military spokesperson said on Sunday.
The military did not immediately provide further details. It was unclear whether the withdrawal would delay a long-threatened incursion into the southern Gaza city of Rafah, which Israeli leaders have said is needed to eliminate Hamas.
The withdrawal comes as Egypt prepares to host a new round of talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire and hostage release deal
Sounds like a tactical pause allowing the Israelis to refit and recharge. Gives Beelzebub Biden something to brag about.
Israel proves that they can fight and also that they can listen and hear.
Will Hamas be as accomodating and return the hostages they took from Israel?
Will the hearts of those that insist Israel must play by all the rules while Hamas need play by none change for Israel?

Well.......of course they did.
Now Joe has more street cred with Hamas.
Serious error! Gaza has not been turned to glass!
October 7th will happen again.
Well, since ALL hostages held by hamas have been released, I suppose this was the thing to do?
I am one that believes if war with Hamas ends like this , on Hamas terms then say yellow to another Biden term
Bibi has failed his objective and therefore handed presidency to Biden
If bibi did what was best for Israel then I think this would make Biden look like a fool and make it harder for Biden re election
“Will Hamas be as accomodating and return the hostages they took from Israel?”
People in the West like to call it Hamas, meaning we view it as a hierarchical organization with a leader. There may be an org chart. There might be someone who is called the leader. But Hamas is a word meaning a crowd-sourced organization that has some overarching funding and supply apparatus. The guy called the leader can say this or that, but he generally can’t force anyone to do what he says. At most he can choose to supply someone or fund someone, but they don’t consider him a leader unless it’s to their temporary advantage. Given this, it’s really not possible for someone in the Hamas apparatus to force anyone to give up their hostages. The West doesn’t want to grasp this because it means letting even one Palestinian into their country as they are wont to do, means they are importing a crowd sourced terrorist or a terrorist supporter.
Does this mean that when a halt is called to negotitate [whatever] with “Hamas,” that Israel is only in negotiations with whomever rules a particular neighborhood and that whatever agreement is reached only extends into that chief’s little fief?
Hamas already said they will continue terror raids.
“Sounds like a tactical pause allowing the Israelis to refit and recharge.”
Agree.
The war isn’t over. Bibi hasn’t failed.
It will be hop and pop, stoop and scoop, bag and tag.
Hamas will be brought to an end.
And Iran should receive continuing air strikes in Syria that decimate the leadership of the Revolutionary Guard ( Kuds) force.

According to my understanding of Islam, yes. Islam does not allow for anything we’d recognize as a state or government, or a competing legal framework. It’s a derivative of the tribal environment. It’s ruled by an Imam. An Imam collects followers. He’s the legislative and the legal system. The more followers the more consequential. Osama Bin Laden, for example. But he gets his power from supplying whatever someone needs. No supply, no power. This is why governments are dumping buckets of cash on their chosen leaders, so they can gain influence and the bucket of cash donors therefore have some influence. Except, it’s like putting out a fire by throwing kerosene on it. They do this because the alternative, wiping out the cancer, is too unappealing. Yeah, those cute little kids will be raised up to murder your cute little kids. But killing them would get five million views on the internet and you’d go to prison. They’d put you in a cell with Feud.
And the sad part is, a thousand years from now it will still be the same.
Shit.
Yes.. the silent finish will make Hamas long for the noisy military war.
