Rove: Trump Jan. 6 pardons pledge a ‘critical’ mistake

Republican strategist Karl Rove urged Democrats to “go hard” at former President Trump’s rhetoric surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, calling the former president’s pledge to free imprisoned rioters a “critical mistake.”

“If they were smart, they’d take the January 6 and go hard at it. And they would say, ‘He wants to pardon these people who attacked our Capitol,'” Rove said told MSNBC’s Ari Melber.

“One of the critical mistakes made in this campaign is that Donald Trump has now said ‘I’m going to pardon those people because they’re hostages,'” Rove said in the interview, which aired Wednesday. “No, they’re not, they’re thugs.”

Trump said last month that his first act if elected to the White House would be to free the imprisoned Jan. 6 rioters, whom he called “hostages.” The former president has expressed sympathy for those charged in connection with the insurrection on numerous occasions and spoke last year at a fundraiser organized for Jan 6. defendants.

This from the man who helped to elect President McCain and President Romney.

But, but, Hannity calls Rove, "the architect".

“Fraud denial.”

Smears do not an argument make.

“Independents do not swing left unilaterally anyhow.”

True. But how they regard things can make them swing either way. I would not relay on mere hopes they swing more right than Left. I don’t have to “cater” to them, but I don’t have to unnecessarily offend them either.

Yes, so you should not smear those that raise the issue of fraud. That is argumentum ad lapidem.

Name any “bad actors on the right”. Otherwise you are smearing, and being “tribal” yourself.

Re: 96 - Oh stop.

If you think what I posted breaks FR rules, the click the Report Abuse link and take your chances.

You may not like it, but there were some left-wing, right-wing types and yes .gov types that were itching for a confrontation on 01/06.

Deal with it.

“Yes, so you should not smear those that raise the issue of fraud.”

Which I do not and did not do.

I just know that a lot of independents don’t see that as black and white as we do. I think they are wrong, but I understand what that may mean when it comes to their votes. I’d rather get them to go with me than unnecessarily give them reason not to.

Well thanks, but proof by assertion is a logical fallacy, and the already-nonexistent credibility is underpinned by echoing the left-wing media that I have never heard you criticize.

And what is this about breaking FR rules? Self-conscious? So far you are not doing that FWICS.

Unfair to paint independents with such a broad brush.

I criticize the left-wing media.

But guess what? What does THAT do, once you criticize over and over?

Make you -feel- better?

The media is what it is. Adapt, improvise, overcome in getting the conservative message out in spite of them.

The left-wing media is a train wreck. Newspaper circulations are down. They can’t stay on the radio without substantial help as their ratings are not what they are for conservative shows. Which means not as much advertising revenue for the left-wing shows.

And TV shows? Guys like Gutfeld are wiping the floor with liberal hosts in the ratings.

Foot stomping about the left-wing media does not help get the message out.

The only one pushing propaganda here is yourself.

You are refusing to accept that there are bad people who share your political viewpoints, which is insane. No difference from the argument you are trying to make than than when leftists burned cities to the ground and claimed they were peaceful protests, exact same cognitive dissonance.

You are free to keep believing your delusions, because actually being rational and reasonable and realizing NOT EVERYONE ON YOUR SIDE IS A GOOD PERSON, would require that you actually have a properly functioning frontal lobe, and a properly functioning frontal lobe doesn’t allow cognitive dissonance to exist... an improperly functioning one tries to invent irrational justifications for the clear rational conflict they are engaging in.

There is absolutely no difference in the behavior you are exhibiting on this thread, than when the irrational gun owners show up and refuse to ever accept that sometimes gun owners do bad things and engage in bad shootings and deserve to be punished for them. You are engaging in the same idiotic nonsensical arguments.

Most people figure this out somewhere in adolescence if not before, NOT EVERYONE WHO AGREES WITH YOU ON SOMETHING, IS A GOOD PERSON, period. I don’t know what went wrong with your development that you can’t seem to accept that, but its true.

“Unfair to paint independents with such a broad brush.”

I don’t think I did. I think accross all independents their views run the gamet. But this election season I know many independents who are on the fence, and to some of them “attitudes” and “demeanor” are mroe substantive than they are to many of us.

You think their views are more narrow??? “Unfair”?? To whom??

Daniel Ball, John Banuelos, Dominic Pezzola, Taylor James Johnatakis, Tim Boughner, Jacob Lang, etc, etc.

They are NOT the face of the conservative movement. They are agitators who were itching for a confrontation.

Yeah, forget the “CRITICAL MISTAKES” made when a violent border invader murderee an American girl or the massive number of Americans killed, injured and robbed by offenders with violent criminal pasts who have been released onto the streets of this nation. THOSE ARE CRITICAL MISTAKES.

The low IQ management and agents in the CIA and FBI were the only bad actors.

They wanted to turn the Constitutional right to assemble into a crime.

But they were stupid, and they will suffer the consequences in a court of law.
