MELROSE, Fla. (WCJB) - A man from Gainesville was shot multiple times in the chest, through a Bible, in a Stand Your Ground shooting after sheriff’s deputies say he harmed his baby and attacked bystanders.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office officials say Jason Kaercher, 26, of Gainesville, began behaving erratically earlier this week. On Thursday, relatives took his 3-month-old baby to a home in Melrose off State Road 21 near the elementary school. Kaercher met with the family and a Department of Children and Families (DCF) case manager.
Kaercher took his wife and baby outside to get some air and moments later the case manager heard screaming. Kaercher was squeezing the baby hard enough to turn the child blue. He then began walking toward State Road 21 saying he was “God” while holding the baby and a Bible.
A family member grabbed a shovel and tried to convince him to release the baby. He then laid down on the roadway on top of the child and Bible. Eventually, he got up and the family member grabbed the baby.
Several vehicles, including a work crew, stopped on the road to avoid hitting him. The crew attempted to hold him down and the family member dropped the shovel. Kaercher broke free and grabbed the shovel.
He then jumped on top of a vehicle and began hitting and cracking the windshield. He approached a man in a truck, opened the door, and began beating the man with the shovel, breaking his arm. The shovel then broke and Kaercher discarded it. Another person grabbed the shovel and hit him.
The driver was then able to grab his gun to defend himself. As Kaecher approached him, holding the Bible, the driver fired multiple times, striking him in the chest through the book.
“I heard probably the fire truck and the ambulance three other times going different directions,” said Katrina Summerville, a neighbor. “I didn’t know there was shooting but it was bad - traffic was stopped, people slamming on their brakes.”
Kaercher was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. The driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment of a broken arm and multiple cuts. The baby was taken to a pediatric emergency room.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident and charges are expected for Kaercher. Deputies say the driver fired his gun in self-defense and no charges are expected.
Nah, I don’t think meth makes them psychotic. Sounds more like spice.
“Deputies say the driver fired his gun in self-defense and no charges are expected.”
A shame that statement is a rarity these days.....once again sanity and common sense comes out of my great state of Florida.
Schizophrenia?
The Spice flowed........................
A classic case of someone having a psychotic episode due to paranoid schizophrenia. Was probably smoking pot or some mind altering drugs before visiting the mother.
Most democrats (especially the single feminist women) are psychotic. They don’t need drugs to turn them crazy, just a photo of Donald Trump will suffice.
No, no you're not. Smile and wait for the flash.
He survived getting hot in the chest???
Maybe it’s not one specific drug that caused the mental insanity, perhaps it was a lifetime of mind-altering drugs this guy has been on since childhood, starting with some type of ADHD medication, progressing onto some type of anti-depressant, combined with a few illegal drugs and who knows what the mental side effects will be.
IMO, it seems like every problem someone has can be cured with some type of drug, it’s created a nation of drug addicted zombies, this guy is just an extreme example.
She's hot in the chest, and she survived.
Imagine the surgeon, picking out little pieces of biblical text out of this idjits chest.
Ooooooooooooooooo! That smarts!
Perhaps he will menendez his ways.
The case worker should have never let the baby and woman leave with him for a breath of fresh air. That person needs firing immediately: injured child; dead men ; and injured bystander. Fresh air my a**.
Get off my truck, Floriduh man!
BOOM!
imagine the poor ER crew having to pick all those bits of paper pushed into him by the bullets!
here are some sane people in Gainesville When I lived there in the 70s I met one.
Wait! He self-identified as God! He needs deity affirming care!
“I am God” -Mankind’s original sin.
Or he’s just plain nuts.
I would say open the insane asylums back up only the crazy authorities would try to lock us up.
He is probably some degree of naturally crazy, although some of that is genetic and can’t be helped, I would be interested in knowing what type of parents this guy has, IMO the odds are his parents were on drugs from the time they were children, advanced on to other mind altering drugs all legal and combined with alcohol and other illegal drugs and then pass that on to children, it’s inevitable you will get lunatics as children.
