Rusty says hi to everyone. Her surgery is scheduled for the 24th.
Proby is going to his Wisconsin home early. I’m sure he can’t wait for mom to join him.
She’s in a lot of pain right now so can use some prayers to gain strength before the surgery.
It is amazing how weather changes in such a short time. I know you said this was March 17, 2007, but in the middle of the night listening to my little radio and Hew Huwitt, he said he is heading north as it was 90 degrees in DC today.

My daughter had a Staffordshire bull terrier that her youngest son had brought home. At that time the city required anyone who had pit bulls they either had to take out homeowners insurance that would cover in case the dog hurt someone or they had to take the dogs for training before the city would license them and she had to do this for I think it was 3 years. That dog was the sweetest dog there was. Around her grand-daughter her cats, and strangers.
Cotton, you should remember. She had to put him to sleep a few years ago and you sent her the sweetest necklace about crossing the rainbow bridge. His name was Ozone
I am pretty sure the dogs would kill a chicken if they got one. That’s the nature of the beast with these Black Mouth Curs. They’re dogs generally from the southern states.
The dogs are in the kennel most of the time, and out to run free when Matt is out and about on the farm. There is an invisible fence going across the front of the property, and down both sides and across the back which gives them a good 3 acres to run loose. They get zapped (it’s one of those vibrating collars) if they go over the lines.....so, if someone was walking along the road, for instance, they don’t go within 10 feet of the property line - they learned very quickly where the boundaries are, and never cross them. Sometimes when Matt takes them out to the back forest for a run and a squirrel hunt, he has to remove the collars so they can cross the invisible fence line. Those invisible fences are expensive, but they’re a great idea. The dogs never leave the property.
It is quite the conundrum what to do about a dog that bites. A neighbor had to put one down when Natalie was 3 because the stupid thing bit her in the face. She got stitches between her eyes on the bridge of her nose, and he ripped her bottom lip wide open, so that had to be sewn up as well. I still felt badly because the owner really loved the dog.
I have mixed feelings about the whole thing with dogs going after chickens and rabbits, etc. It is the nature of the animal. Even Mike’s dogs (3 labs) would chase birds and likely hurt or kill them, and they’re the most gentle dogs around. I think they don’t bother Mike’s chickens or ducks now because he has laid down the law....but if they were ever loose and he wasn’t there, I don’t know if they’d go after them or not. Hard to know exactly what to do when it’s just the way animals are sometimes. They’re dogs. Dogs have chased cats since forever.
In any case, none of the dogs are ever allowed on roads, at neighbor’s homes, etc. They’re very well contained....now if only we could train the rabbits to stay out of their run zone, it would all work out!
Oh poor Rusty. I hope all goes well. That’s a long time to have to wait when you’re in pain.

I was listening to Wayne Allen Root a bit earlier and he’s going on a tangent about this, as are many others. I think more than anything she made a big mistake writing about it. She sure didn’t realize the temperature of the country when it comes to dogs.

oh yes I remember. Dogs are so loyal, They get so bonded to us it’s like having a child that doesn’t talk back and loves us to pieces. It’s so hard when we don’t have them any longer.
Cooper went to obedience training and learned so much. He became a therapy dog. But then I realized seniors or disabled children might be a little rough with him, unintentionally. But it was worth going because he learned a lot of commands that have been handy.

Yes, Code Pink and some possessed peaceniks decided they were going to go to D.C. and spray paint the memorial and throw urine on it too!
So, the call went out to Rolling Thunder, The patriot Guard, and so on, to gather there together to protect it.
There are some other really beautiful memorials there too.
