They are engineering AMerica to go through a subsidy period as well. Only thing is that they won’t allow it to end.

It’s axiomatic that capitalism will eventually defeat communism. That’s why the really committed commies will shoot you if you try.

Also why the Vietnam war was a waste of treasured American lives.

Hindsight. In the post-World War era, containing the Red Menace was an easy sell. Besides, LBJ had just framed a commie for JFK’s assassination, and there was loads of money to be made. Capitalism doesn’t guarantee virtue.

Good article / link, thanks for posting.
Something that both Vietnam and Poland have that I think made the transition possible, or at least easier, is a relatively homogeneous society.

They use the same playbook to start wars every time.

"How Capitalism Beat Communism in Vietnam"

Somebody 'splain to me how you get a job as an finance/economy journalist when you don't know the difference between capitalism and a free market economy.

I forget the movie, but there was argument made that after 2 World Wars in the first half of the 20th century, it was believed by TPTB that managing “small,” conflicts, and keeping them regional would be in the better interest of the people of the world. And managers get 15%, so there’s incentive to prolong the conflict.

Back around 2003, my nephew was studying general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. I was invited to join him and several of his fellow medical students on a ski trip to British Columbia.

One of his friends was a Vietnamese kid from South Dakota and he and I hit it off because he was a pheasant hunter too. I thought it odd that he was from SD so I asked him his history. It turned out that both his parents were doctors in Vietnam and were able to escape along with the other boat people and were taken in by a church group in SD.

They in turn became doctors there and the son followed in their footsteps.

If we had spent all the war resources on north Vietnam we’d been allies sooner!

Lying Lyndon Johnson lied when he said he would not send American boys to fight a war the South Vietnamese should be fighting, till he won the election. When he won the election he sent American boys to South Vietnam.
