India yielded to the sanctions and ceased all purchases from Russia

The article said the Indians would buy from America. I suspect that Saudi Arabia and the UAE might help out as well.

By and large, these journalists are almost completely innumerate, let alone not having any engineering background.

The ONLY reason India was buying so much Russian oil was because of the huge discount they were buying it at.

Peter Zeihan has been saying that the Russian oil production was going to steadily decrease because they can not repair at of their production facilities. That without the western technology and skills that they will be steadily decreasing as everything breaks and no one knows how to fix it.
Similar to what we have seen over the last thirty years in Venezuela.

The problem is that a lot of the Russian oil comes from areas where there is perma frost. If it stops pumping, they may need technology and money that they do not have to bring it back on line.

But Russia has friends like China. China can build a coal burning power plant in 10 days. Cheep labor too.

For God’s sake people, download the global energy spreadsheet and understand oil and gas. It’s a matter of numbers. Geology does not care who has a white hat or a black hat.

1) Russia’s oil production is not production. Nobody’s oil production is production. It is EXTRACTION. It is not manufactured. Russia’s number is 9.5ish million barrels per day of oil that has lots of gasoline AND diesel in it. That number is down from about 11. They are one of the two major members of OPEC+ and KSA/Russia agreed on the 9.5 number.

2) US oil extraction is 13 mbpd, but it’s not diesel rich. And frankly, 30 years ago it would not be called oil. It would be called condensate or natural gas liquids. It is Light Tight Oil, emphasis on Light — which means gasoline rich — diesel and kerosene (jet fuel) poor. NGLs and Condensate are certainly not worthless. They are plastic feedstocks, but you can’t build a society on no diesel.

3) India’s consumption growth is startling. 2022 (the last year for which data is available (will update in June to 2023)) India’s domestic consumption was 5.2 million bpd. That was an 8% rise from 2021. India’s domestic production (extraction) is 737K bpd and is in terminal decline down from 900K 10 yrs ago. So they HAVE to import 4 mbpd. The bit US export announcement was 250K bpd (for 3 ships carrying millions, which are the entirety of the contract).

Point being, it would not matter if India hated Russia and everything about Russia, they have to have the oil and Russia has the right crude blend. It’s not a matter of price. It’s a matter of civilization’s lifeblood. The US consumes 20 mbpd and extracts 13. Think about that when you want to celebrate exports.

Do yourself a favor. Educate yourself about the current Russian economy. A twelve minute investment will keep you from making such foolish remarks.
