Two years ago, the Biden administration rammed through Congress a trillion-dollar infrastructure bill that contained, among other boondoggles, $7.5 billion for building EV charging stations across the country.
The administration says it's going to need 500,000 charging stations in place by 2030 to achieve Biden's climate goals on emissions. So far, a grand total of seven charging stations are operational.
“I think a lot of people who are watching this are getting concerned about the timeline,” said Alexander Laska, a deputy director at the Third Way think tank.
Gee! Ya think?
How many charging stations will $7.5 billion buy? The Federal Highway Administration estimates that the money will buy 20,000 stations. And Biden's goal of 500,000 EV charging stations isn't nearly enough.
Some estimates place the number of stations needed to adequately cover the United States for all the EVs that Biden says we have to buy at closer to a million by 2035.
"The US needs to quadruple its charging infrastructure by 2025, and grow it more than eight times by 2030," according to a report out of S&P Global Mobility.
The White House knows full well the chaos that's about to descend on American highways. They figure that's the price we have to pay to save our precious planet.
"A recent study from the National Renewable Energy Lab estimated that in order to meet anticipated charging needs by 2030, a cumulative investment of between $31 and $55 billion for about 1.2 million publicly accessible charging units will be required (on top of about 28 million home charging units)," noted a White House press release from last December.
The reality is that the charging stations open at this moment are unreliable.

bingo, why don’t other mfgs build them?
Just wait until the Tic Toc challenge on how to steal them.
Yep, just a little behind. /s
...and democrat thieves have spent the money...
Another Biden Administration failure the numbers grow by the day.
They need 500,000 charging stations. Today we have 145,000 filling stations with gasoline and no lines. That is all you need to know about recharging times.
[Kamala Harris in charge?
Does they charge yellow school buses?]
Only the short ones.
😆😂😄🤣
I had a little fun with “Does they” too
Short-sighted management. How to charge them is the buyer's problem. I have owned an EV for 5 years, works great for me in an urban setting. I knew what I was getting into, and wanted it as a daily driver to avoid all the maintenance issues with ICE vehicles (I have several).
I charge it at home, easy to do and is cheap. The few times I've charged it on the road I've found less than desirable. Either chargers are occupied, are expensive, or simply don't work. Am looking forward to getting an adapter and trying a Tesla charger. Rarely go over 100 miles from home in the EV (range is 226 miles), and use my ICE vehicles for long trips. But gas prices are sky high here in California, close to $6/gallon. I had problems getting my ICE cars to pass smog tests in order to get re-registered, and shop repairs expensive, which are reasons I got an EV. I like ICE cars but government is making it hard to keep them.
Your post is right on!
A friend told me that Hertz rental cars went overboard and purchased a huge number of EVs. Now they’re close to bankruptcy because very, very few people want to rent an EV.
People are going elsewhere to rent cars.
and none are reason for taxpayers dollar involvement...
What will be the per mile charge to replace the gas tax?
Speaking of gas stations...how much money did the government give to build gas stations? Gas companies did it, entrepreneurs did it, capitalists did it. Why the heck are we paying for charging stations? I know, I know...leftest ideology WANTS THEM.
30%? You’re way off the mark. They’ll need 500,000 reserves to back up the 500,000 out of service.
Well, I take that back - I AM concerned that they're wasting tax dollars in this manner, but I'm at the point where all of their STUPID spending is just a bad dream anyway, and I'm waiting to wake up!
Nice transportation.....dont ever need a charge or a fill-up.
Ithaca runs on hay and carrots. Cheap to keep! :)
Rarely needs a tune-up.
I don't know. But many states charge higher registration fees on EVs to cover lost gas taxes. Here in California, it is an extra $108 per year to register an EV vs an ICE car, to replace gas taxes. For someone like me who puts on hundreds of miles a year, it is an unfair flat tax. For others who put on thousands of miles per year, it is fair. Currently paying under $400 for the EV, and around $200 for the ICE cars. I am thinking of dumping the ICE cars due to maintenance costs and smog control requirements and fees.
