U.N. Chief Demands Slavery Reparations After ‘Generations of Discrimination

U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres has declared reparations are due now to compensate for the trans-Atlantic slave trade as a way to tackle “its legacy” in today’s society, including “systemic racism and white supremacy.”

In a statement to mark the U.N. International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery, Guterres said the past “laid the foundations for a violent discrimination system based on white supremacy.”

“We call for reparatory justice frameworks to help overcome generations of exclusion and discrimination,” Guterres said.

The Portuguese started the Atlantic slave trade of sub-Saharan Africans (c. 1441--before Columbus was even born). Later they were major traffickers of slaves to the New World (Brazil). So they should be the first to contribute.

Of course Muslims had been enslaving black Africans for centuries before that, but were not taking them across the Atlantic.

This POS is Portuguese.

Portugal had a near monopoly on the African slave trade (due to a Papal bull) from the late 1400s until the early 1700s and was responsible, directly or indirectly, for the overwhelming majority of slaves transported to the Americas for the duration of the transatlatic slave trade.

To put it in perspective, about 3% of enslaved Africans ended up in North America. Most ended up in Brazil (a Portuguese colony) and various islands.

Sounds like Portugal and Brazil needs to pay 90%+ of the bill.
