Increasingly more high-net worth and ultra-high-net worth Americans are "hedging their bets" against political turmoil and social unrest by pursuing backup visas and citizenships abroad.
That's according to the 2024 USA Wealth Report put out by investment migration consultancy Henley & Partners and New World Wealth, which finds there are now more Americans applying for residence and citizenship-by-investment programs than citizens of any other country. Over the past five years, inquiries from the U.S. about these programs have increased by 500%.
These programs involve making an investment of, typically, a few hundred thousand dollars and spending a few years in a country in exchange for a visa or citizenship. Each country determines its own rules for applicants, including a time frame, investment options, and due-diligence expectations.
I believe with some certainty that my wife and I and our two dogs will probably suffer violent deaths defending our home from the effects of societal breakdown and mass civil disorder. The only consolation we have is that we are seeing some of the non-English-speaking Hispanic homeowners on our block starting to fly American flags on their properties. Any sense of community in our area has long gone away and because of language barriers no one talks to their neighbors and of course this has been the intent, to destroy community ties. At our late age, the mobs will probably consider us easy pickings, once our ammo runs out.
“Only reason I stay here in the USA is second amendment or I would have been gone years ago”
Illegals have just been granted 2nd Amendment rights....
My friend is retiring part time to Vietnam. Who would have ever in a million years thought the Viets would be a better option than the U.S.? But here with are. He said they are corrupt over there but they don’t pretend that they are not. Unlike here.
Your remarks reminded me of a short story by the great Jack London who published a collection of Hawaiian stories called the House of Pride -- and found free on Gutenberg since the copyright has expired.
The story I recommend is named CHUN AH CHUN, found by scrolling 60% down the long webpage. A quick excerpt from the opener:
If you can spare 30 minutes of time, this short story will satisfy, I think.
But they’ll still send $$$ to Rat Party Headquarters.
You may want to read the list again. There are many more countries that have fairly lenient gun laws. See Italy, Malta, Switzerland, Philippines, Serbia, Croatia, Lithuania, Estonia, etc., etc.
“I’m with you, brother. I took an oath to defend America from all enemies foreign and domestic and I take that oath seriously.”
Right along with you mate, but the question is when to invoke and activate that oath? At this point I fear we may be too far gone and history will record that we should have nipped it in the bud, like catching cancer at stage 1 vs 4.
Note tagline.
>Now that they’ve shit all over the bed they’re leaving because they hate the smell.<
I didn’t STB but left anyway. The expat community around me is quite conservative and vocal about it. I even see a bunch of MAGA gear. More than I saw in Texas. The few liberals are leftover hippies and are very quiet about politics. That’s quite a difference from the soiled bed someone left for me.

Bingo
It’s my understanding that many at FR will be fleeing to Ukraine.
I don’t know where the rich folks think they can go. However, I think I know one guy who has an idea.
Elon Musk. He doesn’t want to go to another country.... he wants to go to another PLANET.

American expat shares why he chose to relocate to Singapore and 'it's not because of the salary'

This guy trades his freedom for security. A good little sheep.
But even a little thinking leads one to pick Singapore over the Rotten Apple. Any day.
One word “registration”.
You don’t register them ever!
It is like painting a target on your front and back!
