Well, that’s two officers per 8 hour shift 24 hours a day. Not out of line, I don’t think.
Lots of places of that size have a dispatcher who is on call 24/7 and will rouse the troops if needed but for the most part they are not.
Regular stuff is handled during normal business hours.
Six officers is barely full-time coverage when you factor in training days, vacations, and court appearances.
Usual formula is a minimum of eight for full time...and that assumes a “working Chief” and “working detective” both of whom answer 911 calls.
But that’s 7 days a wk and no time off.
If they’re being investigated by the state, the town might be better having them off the job until whatever it is is straightened out. Sounds serious.
