Winter weather alerts are in place for parts of 17 states as two separate storm systems bring heavy snowfall to New England and northern states through the weekend.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter storm warnings for Alaska, California, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. Advisories are also in place for Connecticut, the Dakotas, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin.

Besides, if trees start coming down and taking out power lines, there’s no point in getting stuck on impassible roads.
My access to FR is over fiber optics. My ISP has it’s own emergency generators and I can supply my own power (for a while - ‘til the gas cans are empty. I really need to tap into my large propane tank)
I would like to rent a lake cabin with a wood stove and generator during a great storm. A warm dog and a helpful woman would be nice too, but not essential.
We have a pond. But you can’t see it now.
Otherwise, we’re set. Lots of books, too.
At my age, a warm woman and a helpful dog would be better.
Insurance will give you what your car was worth before the Scamdemic only which wouldn't buy you a 12 year old jalopy at best. A party ain't worth it.
Yup.
We’re looking at a nor’easter tonight.
Very likely we will lose power. The winter storm warning is for heavy, mixed precip with a total of 6-10” of snow, sleet accumulations of up to an inch, and ice up to 2/10”.
It starts around midnight tonight and is forecast for 100% precip through sunset tomorrow night. Then after the storm is over, the winds will increase with gusts up to 35 mph. Whatever the snow and ice don’t bring down, the winds will.
There have been warnings up everywhere but people here are prepared. LOTS of generators running during many of these events.
We lose power rather easily so I fully expect to be without at some point during the storm for the duration. The blessing is that it is hitting on a weekend and at night.
Your location. I am well aware of where the storm is going, but you described you situation without a location.
Didn’t deliver the mail today. I tried. I’m going to finish up tomorrow. That’s the joy of being a contractor. Anyway Amazon didn’t come in till after I left. We’re short handed and only 2 carriers for tomorrow’s package delivery so I’ll pick up the slack for them.
Get ready for the rain. My brother who lives in upstate NY said they got 2 inches of snow and the it’s been raining ever since. It’s heading north. They’re looking at localized flooding.
We’ve already easily gotten a foot and now it’s starting to be a mix of snow and what looks like rain, perhaps sleet.
Icing on top of this is a recipe for disaster.
Obviously we still have power but with the freezing rain and the way the winds are supposed to kick up starting in a few hours, we’ll see how long that lasts.
We’re in NH near the Upper Valley area, closer to VT.
Yeah but you found a nice bike underneath it, so that’s pretty darn cool.
We just got a brief shot of rain and it’s back to snow but not coming straight down as before, so the winds ARE picking up.
