So it’s like a really cold hurricane.
How much gas does your generator burn in a day?
Do you run it all the time or sporadically?
Never had to deal with it so I’m curious

We won’t turn any down if you can figure a way to ship it over.

The best I can do is send you warm wishes and prayers. Be safe.

Yes, essentially it is a sort of hurricane. Or perhaps better said is that a hurricane is a special case east coast low.

We don’t use the generator constantly. We turn it on and off for the fridge and freezer and the well pump for water. Since we have a wood stove, we don’t need to run it continually for heat.

Our generator uses propane as well, so like last year, when we had a tree take out our power lines to the house and were without power for two days, we just hooked it up to the propane.

Mr. mm says that gas use depends on the load and that the specs for each generator should give an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

We’ll be fine. We are not planning on going anywhere and for all the trees around us, none are within striking distance of the house.

Our chest freezer is pretty big.

And the temperatures would not work for the frozen stuff.

We do have an enclosed porch that could work but putting food outside is not an option for many people.

Bears are a big concern, and they are out of hibernation early this year. Racoons will also go after anything they can and they carry disease.

There’s still the issue of water in the house, too.

We run the generator enough for a few things, and then turn it off. It’s actually off more than on.

No point in burning either gas or propane for no reason.

We had 24 inches of snow last week. Looks like it’s your turn in the barrel this week, metmom. :)

Stay safe and I hope you don’t lose power.

Thanks. So far so good. As of now, we have just a dusting.

And I was looking forward to no more now. The grass was just starting to green up.

Up here in upstate New York we are in the middle of getting our only real snowstorm of the year.

Probably got about half a foot so far, of all days for my grandaughter to visit!

We are doing better here in Southern Maryland. Wet and windy, but that is about it.

Be well and be safe.

So lets imagine for a moment, you have an EV if you can afford it, thats useless, your natural gas has been banned so there’s no way to cook food and keep warm , banned propane for the gas grill, cant burn wood for the stove either. Only electric that is controlled by your captors

It started snowing at midnight as they predicted and as of 8 AM we’ve easily had 8-9 inches of snow.

It’s very still so the snow is collecting on the trees.

This is supposed to keep up until about 10 PM. At this rate, we’re looking at almost 2 feet. Still have power, though, but time will tell on that. The winds are supposed to kick up dramatically starting about 4 until sunrise.

I’d be surprised if we have church tomorrow. I’m not sure we could be dug out by then anyways. We’re already starting behind the eight ball with waking up to this much. Lots of people are not going to be able to keep up with clearing out.

We canceled the trip to the party ... fuhgeddaboudit.

We got 3+ inches so far, going to 6 - 8” by this afternoon, then freezing rain the rest of the day.

Ain't risking it because we would have to come home at night in the rain/freezing rain by then.

Snow is one thing. Having lived in the snowbelt areas in NNYS all my life, driving in snow is no big deal.

Ice OTOH. ...... Absolutely not. Will not mess with ice. You can’t win.
