It was only after the third attack that the city closed the park or even posted warning signs.

This sounds like something that was known to occur back when Mark Twain was a six year old.
Have these coyotes been deliberately imported to that area?

Shark Week is only a few months away.

Can “Shark-ote, the Movie” be far behind?

It’s early, usually I’m punnier.

Coyotes are usually cowards.

I would presume these are coy-dogs, a blend of (usually) German shepherd of some kind. They are much more aggressive, bigger, and gradually taking over.

All the nasty traits of coyotes with the size and fighting ability of a proper guard dog.

The reason coyotes, wolves, and dogs are different is that PEOPLE maintained niche separation. The canids (actually all the same species by biological definition of the term) drifted apart in attributes because people maintained niche separation.

During the Pleistocene and still today among particular aboriginal tribes, people actually call in big cats to deal with canid predators, while maintaining smaller less aggressive "dogs" to warn them of approaching wolves and bears, then using them to distract and frustrate those larger predators.

Just leave an ACME catalog in the park; the problem will take care of itself.

Coyotes are pussies. Although they will go after small children and small pets.

A Pitbull would shred a Coyote.

I’ve read that coyote DNA in the SW have some of the same DNA as did the extinct red wolf. Hybrids between coyotes and feral domestic dogs have no fear of humans and have the hunting instincts of the coyotes. I would be wary of any coyote in daylight because rabies is a real threat and a bite from a wild dog could be lethal. There is not much of a chance of surviving rabies once symptoms develop.

Our cattle dog just chased a coyote out of the pasture, twice. It’s a constant war. I’m glad we have him. But generally I enjoy the coyotes, especially when they sing at night. But we live in the country. Scary to have them in town.

Just wait until the wolf packs that they are promoting get bigger.

POSSIBLY rabid.

MOST coyotes are shy of people.

Thermal image rifle scope on a .22-250 rifle is how we take care of them out here on the farm in central Kansas. Telescope is darn expensive, but so are my calves.

They make some very nice handy 22 revolvers with potent rounds (federal Punch, Winchester Silver tip). Will stop any coyote/dog attack and so easy to shoot and carry. Perfect for strollers, hikers, joggers, etc.

This is inevitable when you allow them to get habituated. Which is why someone has to hunt and kill coyotes coming anywhere near a human settlement every chance they get, to keep them skittish and cause them to give humans a wide berth.
