It’s funny how things work. Last year at this time, Americans overwhelmingly supported a ban on TikTok. Polls showed a 50-22% overall margin in support of a ban and 70-14% among conservatives. But Congress couldn’t get the RESTRICT Act passed. >As the public learned more about provisions in the bill, and particularly since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza, the legislative plan grew less popular. Polls dropped to 38-27% in favor by December, and they’re at 35-31% against now.

Yet the House just passed the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” by a ridiculous 352-64 margin, with an even more absurd 50-0 unanimous push from the House Energy and Commerce Committee. What gives?

Since then Trump started Truth Social. Recently the SEC approved bringing TS public which could make DJT about $3B in the transaction. Guess why Congress is now in such a hurry to give POTUS such sweeping new powers!!??

This is about shutting down alternative media. Rumble will be high on their list. Why else would so many democrats go for it. I heard that Biden is willing to sing it. People need to use there heads and think.

If you wanted to ban Tick Toc then why not just make a law that does just that, and only that. This is one of those never let a good crisis go to waist events.

The issue it seems is what is a foreign adversary.

The argument is that TikTok, like the fentanyl plague, is a means used by the CCP to subvert this nation. That may be true, but as other posters have noted, the precedent set by shutting down TikTok could be extended to the alternative media. Despite Big Tech deplatforming dissidents, the migration to alternative platforms has driven millions away from constant exposure to the Deep State narrative. It functions much as the samizdat, or underground press, did in the USSR.
