On Thursday, March 14, Elon Musk's SpaceX launched the third test flight of its Starship Super-Heavy rocket, the platform the company is pushing to take humans to the moon and Mars.

Starlink does a lot more things than advertised and that’s typical of Musk who thinks way ahead.
I’m amazed that the powers that be have let Musk do some of the things he has been doing.
Apple TVs “For All Mankind” does a pretty good job of showing how quickly humans will be their fallen selves with the episodes of the Mars colony. Doesn’t take long before there is a civil war. Wonder if Elon has watched it? Enjoy.

It’s what space x calls it. I really like they keep pushing and expect failures. Lost the booster and starship and it’s a great success. I really like their willingness to find failures and success with real live flights. The old way (NASA) takes 10-15 years to launch and then finds failures in flight anyway.

Re-entry looks like a software fix to keep things in the correct orientation.
nope one of the flaps had a camera on it, so it looked like the ship was turning but was not.
was cool to that spacex got as far as they did, next flight 4 will be even better.
Two questions...why did the re-entry burn not take place...and without a visual of the vehicle and no provisions for wreckage recovery, how will they determine the mode of failure?
Spacex is built on the “iterative and incremental development” model. Basically, build it, test it to destruction, take the knowledge gained and build it again, etc. until you have it darn near foolproof. It’s how they built the falcon 9 and falcon heavy rockets. Now those things go up and come back down like clockwork.

The craft rotated so that the heat shield was not in proper alignment with the atmosphere. the fins of the craft appeared to melt, causing the situation to get worse. They need to do a weight distribution analysis and perhaps add some gyros...................

They plan to have 6 more tests this year! Prep for Flight 4 is underway now.
Maybe old joe can use it to bring 200 tons of food to gaza.

While Gaza aid to Hamas using StarShip is not going to happen, Starship is planned to deliver 200 ton cargoes to any place on Earth in the future as many as 3 a day.
We may go to the stars one day, but it won’t be with rocket ships.

Back in 1963, there were plans to build an interstellar ship with a crew of 2,000 to go to A. Centauri in a few years using nuclear bomblet propulsion: Project Orion (the original one). Killed by lack of political will.
