Jimmy Carter has spent over a year in hospice care. How has he defied the odds?

Last month, former President Jimmy Carter marked one year in hospice. After entering end-of-life care in February 2023, he celebrated his 99th birthday and grieved the death of his wife of 77 years and former first lady, Rosalynn Carter.

Even then, Carter was able — with help — to attend her funeral.

Even at the end of life, the nation’s longest-living president — someone who “practically no one ever thought” would be elected president, writes the New York Times’ Peter Baker — is defying the odds.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 90% of patients who enter hospice care die within the first six months. Roughly 36% of patients die within a week of entering hospice.

End-of-life advocates and experts cite Carter’s stay in hospice as having a positive impact on the discourse surrounding end-of-life care — a medical service that Northeastern University experts say many people put off until it’s too late.

I saw him at his wife’s funeral. You could see that he was just holding on.

In before the “Carter was our worst US president” ignorant statements.

Carter doesn’t even make the top 5.

Anyway - God Bless him.

Spoke with a hospice nurse who told me her theory: Getting the cocktail of prescription drugs out of some people’s systems actually brings back their normal immune system and can prolong life.

Carter was not our worst. He used to be. But he has been far surpassed by the likes of Obozo and LGBFJB.

Its BS. He wasn’t a Hospice patient in the first place. He just got the VIP nursing home experience with unlimited drugs and round the clock nursing for free.

“ He’s like a Dem officeholder.”
Yep. I believe the reason that they hold on so long is they are terrified of meeting the Lord face to face.

Honestly, I would not have been surprised if he passed within a week or two of his wife.

He's on the Lord's time and he'll leave when called.

Don’t be silly. He was a dumbass from day 1. Everyone knew it in 1976. We were just pissed about Reagan. But no one was pissed enough to vote for the Peanut Man.

They keep him in the fridge until they can accommodate another state funeral.

Bingo. You are correct. He was never terminally ill at the time he was put into hospice. He is just getting 24x7 at home nursing care.

I warned about ignorant statements. I did.

He used to be??

I guess Lyndon Johnson was before your time. But read up on him. He makes Carter look like a Sunday School teacher. Which he was.

Carter was not our worst. He used to be.

I believe that when it came to running the country, being executive in stature, he did a poor job. I always believed his heart was in the right place though, he loved our country.

Many Democrats today, particularly Obama and his ilk, despise the country. They want to turn it upside down and re-make it into some liberal utopia. The want the United States to take a back seat, to turn our standards down a few notches.

Carter was relatively harmless.

Wilson, FRD, LBJ, Obozo, Bidet were far worse.

I turned 18 in 1976. I proudly supported Ronald Reagan way back then.
