Gen Z has no time for the corporate grind. Are they lazy or smart?

Generation Z is ditching the corporate grind in spades.

According to a new study by Credit Karma, among Gen Z U.S. adults ages 18+, 60% say traditional 9 to 5 jobs are "soul-sucking," with 43% saying they have no desire to work a traditional 9 to 5 job at all.

While there’s been no discussion of whether or not this trend applies more to women than to men, much of the discussion about this topic suggests women are leading the charge—which makes sense, since social media, a largely female space, is in part why young women don’t want to work traditional full-time jobs.

they are lazy and smart. But in the end they will pay for their actions with lower lifetime earnings.

I also hear many are charging up debt with zero intention to pay a penny back.

I see an opportunity for the Dems to buy Gen Z votes with another bailout. This time it’ll be credit card debt as opposed to student loans.

There is no question the plan is demoralization and replacement.

My neighbor has a daughter. She dropped out of college in her freshman year. Her father and mother let her plus her boyfriend live in his home. They did zip and were in the same bedroom. I do not understand trash like that.

They may have an inkling that everything is fake, phony, fugazy, and that there is no loyalty anymore. Still, it’s a bad sign. If Americans no longer want to run things, who will be in charge?

The article says several times they are leaning out.

Does anyone know what that means in English?

I don’t understand it either.
If you live at your parents, you should be using your opportunity to build something. IMO, it’s ok to live at your parents if you are trying to build a business or getting your education as far as you can take it, but you should be doing something with your life and not just slum.

The worst fate is being 40 years and having built nothing.

"Lots of options for young, smart, capable people today. It’s a new world." Agreed. The funny thing is, in more rural and semi rural parts of the country, people have been doing all sorts of things to make money rather than be cooped up in an office 9-5. Here in North Idaho and surrounding areas you find people doing all sorts of things.

I spent my career mostly in the Silicon Valley area after five years in field service engineering. There it was the 7-7 grind (not 9-5) for everybody just to stay afloat.

There's a GREAT (and very sad) ode to the grind titled "Tall Buildings"...

Someday, my baby, when I am a man
And other's have taught me
The best that they can
They'll sell me a suit
And cut off my hair
And send me to work in tall buildings

So it's goodbye to the sunshine
Goodbye to the dew
Goodbye to the flowers
And goodbye to you
I'm off to the subway
I must not be late
I'm going to work in tall buildings

And when I'm retired
And my life is my own
I made all the payments
It's time to go home
And wonder what happened
Betwixt and between
When I went to work in tall buildings

So it's goodbye to the sunshine
Goodbye to the dew
Goodbye to the flowers
And goodbye to you
I'm off to the subway
I must not be late
Going to work in tall buildings

So it's goodbye to the sunshine
Goodbye to the dew
Goodbye to the flowers
And goodbye to you
I'm off to the subway
I must not be late
I'm going to work in tall buildings

Are they lazy or smart?

Neither.

If they have access to a 401(k) with a company match, they are stupid not to take it.

I understand that this is the battleground they are choosing to fight on, but I'm afraid that they are misunderstanding the war they think they're fighting.

If they think they will force a change to a socialist economy by refusing to participate, they will find themselves starving before the rest of us are gone.

They've been saddled with $31 trillion in debt and know they can't pay it off.

Many younger folks have no intention of getting married or having children. A part of that is financial, but mostly because they know they're messed up from whackjob parents (if they even know their fathers) and don't wish to subject their own children to it.

They're not going to be a slave to the grind for the sake of children they're not having.

“The best thing they can do is learn a trade and work there.”
Absolutely! Go to trade school, do well and graduate in a couple of years with little college debt. Take a high five figure a year job in your early 20’s.

I don’t really blame them. The corporate culture has flatlined as far as any realy opportunity goes.

Agree.

9-5 jobs were always soul-sucking but they used to come with nice benefits and a decent pension when you retired. Not to mention, they paid enough to enjoy a solid middle-class lifestyle; buy a home, send the kids to college, etc.

Not these days. Can't really blame them for ditching this model.

>> Starting a business takes a lot of sweat.

You’re kidding, right?

They’re gonna get on various forms of the gubmint dole. They’ll spend their time “content creating” and “influencing”, mostly concerning video games.

Gen Zed suffers from almost 1/2 of its entire population with some sort of mental illness or imbalance. Just searched that this morning (42 % to be exact).

Don’t believe me? Go to X and look at the never ending stream of Zs talking about their chosen gender , or belief in Biden to save the country..

One woman even has a site called Libs of TikTok where she just replays their videos with no commentary. A never ending stream of leftist freaks and I’d bet 90% are Gen Z.

Their problem is that they don’t differentiate themselves from each other.

All are incompetent and lazy. By and large, they don’t offer an employer anything worth money.
