Republican Alabama Sen. Katie Britt pulled no punches as she delivered her party's rebuttal to President Biden's State of the Union address Thursday night, ripping him for his "despicable" job handling the border crisis, as well as his promotion of "Bidenomics" amid the rising consumer costs plaguing American families.
A rising star within the GOP, the 42-year-old Britt's selection to deliver the rebuttal last week was met with widespread praise — even from some Democrats — as she continues to build a national profile despite never holding elected office prior to her election in the 2022 midterms.
Britt began her remarks with a reference to Biden's age and his decades as a career politician, blasting his speech as "the performance of a permanent politician who has actually been in office for longer than I've been alive."
"The country we know and love seems to be slipping away, and it feels like the next generation will have fewer opportunities – and less freedoms – than we did. I worry my own children may not even get a shot at living their American Dreams," Britt said.
"The American Dream has turned into a nightmare for so many families. The true, unvarnished State of our Union begins and ends with this: Our families are hurting. Our country can do better," she said.
Britt then sought to pick apart Biden's policies, starting with the ongoing crisis at the southern border that's seen a historic number of migrants cross into the U.S. She specifically called out his diversion from former President Donald Trump's border policies.
"President Biden inherited the most secure border of all-time. But minutes after taking office, he suspended all deportations, halted construction of the border wall, and announced a plan to give amnesty to millions...

I thought she did a fine job, others may disagree.
I believe it was The Turdle and Johnson's call.
Their pick reminds me of their CR's.
I like Britt. I believe you are correct about the target audience.
Personally, I would have preferred a different person or perhaps a different cadence.
Imagine the head explosions if they picked Trump.
Just wish the hadn’t sounded so much like those ASPCA ads begging for “just $19 a month” to save a suffering animal.
“A rising star within the GOP”
Ludicrous.
I was completely unimpressed.
Brandon inherited a well-oiled MACHINE of an economy and a country on the rebound from way too many years of Socialist Democrats and Quisling republicans selling America out to the highest bidder!
He’s destroyed it all and has made life miserable, arounf the WORLD.
And it’s all by design, Comrades! *SPIT*
Nice job Katie. She’s a newcomer to the Senate and doing great so far.
She’s GOPe, put there by McConnell. No experience, just a social climber and connection maker.
One of those typical college girls. Girls State in high school. “special assistant” to the college president, intern for Senator Shelby. After college goes to a law firm and helps start their “government affairs wing”. Then lo an behold, moves back into Shelby’s office again. Then -appointed- to head the Alabama Business Council despite not a single day of her life in business. Then back to Shelby and boosted to his Senate seat by millions from McConnell.
She’s never done a thing on her own. It’s all small town connections, flirting and marrying a football player.
And we are likely stuck with her for decades now.
She has been silent on the stolen election, on the unjust persecution of Trump, and on J6 hostages.
She’s a McConnell girl.
And she came across weak, like she was shaky, nervous and close to tears. It shoulda been someone with a backbone like Stefanik, or JD Vance.
She was an excellent counter to the angry Biden. Soccer moms will take note. MTG would be a total turnoff to them.
I would like to see polling data to see if she moved the numbers.
If she did—at least a couple of points—ok I am in.
If not—might as well go all in MTG.
I keep hearing her “I’m a mom” and nervous emotional style as necessary to appeal to suburban women.
Basically, everyone is saying that means you have to dumb it down for women. Seems kinda unflattering. But there it is.
“clear that she was talking directly to the moms of America, a demographic that is a growing problem for Republicans”.
So you have to make it nervous and emotional and dumb it down a little so it’s less scary. Got it.
I want to see the focus group data.
Without it all of this stuff is just speculation.
Yup, here’s the context from the article:
“Hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet today. And with soaring mortgage rates and sky-high childcare costs, they’re also struggling to plan for tomorrow. The American people are scraping by while the President proudly proclaims Bidenomics is working! Bless his heart. We know better,” she said.

She’s a McConnell assclown. Voted for massive aid to Ukraine and wants more. Avoids Trump. Buddies with Cornyn who is as swamp as it gets. A less experienced Pence in a skirt.
Yeah... all of America trembled when she said bless your heart. /s
That might be a huge burn when the mother in law says it at some white glove debutants ball. But today, and to most people, it just sounds silly.
Worst SOTU rebuttal I’ve ever seen. It should have been easy but Britt totally blew it.
