A federal judge denied former President Donald Trump's request to delay enforcement and ordered him to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million by Monday or post bond, according to a filing on Thursday evening.
A federal jury in January decided Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll more than $83 million in damages after he denied allegations he raped her in the 1990s.
The jury decided Trump must pay $18.3 million in compensatory damages, and $65 million in punitive damages.
Trump has appealed the decision.
But on Thursday, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan demanded Trump pay the damages by Monday.

Why would Khamas and the Houthis do this?
Kaplan.
And if he doesn’t watcha gonna do.....judge, you got nothing. Piss off.
Appeal the order to pay and/or post bond. Delay it for several weeks.
1. Won't the judge hold Trump in contempt and jail him?
2. Can't the judge garnish his bank accounts? Financial institutions today pretty much do with your money whatever the government tells them to.
The judges are sounding more like tyrants all the time.
It’s plain to see. It’s obvious they don’t like Trump. This isn’t political.. It isn’t favoritism.. It’s a spiritual battle. They are controlled by the evil.. satanic.. Forces out there. Trump is a threat to where they want to go.Christians are a threat.
We are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against principalities in the air.. Who come to kill and destroy..
Send the “jug head” an I.O.U. to give to the ho. Trump needs that money to throw Jumpin’ Joe Pedo out of the White House on his ass.
Let the “judgey” boy and the ho put you in jail. That will do a lot for their far-left turd roller Dung Beetle pals.
A lot of people here don’t seem to understand the nature of the threat to Trump.
Carroll has a judgment against him. Judgments can be enforced, even if they’re under appeal. There is no automatic stay pending appeal. Trump has to bond the appeal if he wants to stay enforcement.
No, he won’t be arrested or held in contempt. The Secret Service will play no role. If the appeal isn’t bonded, Carroll’s lawyer will start enforcement proceedings. The easiest would be a levy on any of Trump’s bank accounts. The bank would have no choice but to cough up the money. Note to Angelino97: The judge wouldn’t do the garnishing. Carroll wouldn’t need another order of the court, because there’s already a judgment, which the banks would have to honor.
A judgment can also be enforced against real property. Any property Trump owns can be auctioned off, highest bidder gets it. Sale proceeds go first to satisfy the judgment, then Trump gets any money that’s left over. (There are probably complications here because some of the buildings have multiple owners, and one owner might be a corporation that itself has multiple owners, but I’m sure there are ways to work that out. Trump isn’t the first judgment debtor to have complicated finances.)
All this defiance on FR (“Don’t pay a penny,” etc.) just won’t work. Enforcement of a judgment doesn’t require the cooperation of the judgment debtor. Trump would find his bank accounts emptied and might even find one of his prized buildings sold out from under him.
If Trump’s appeal of the judgment succeeds, he could try to get the money back from Carroll. Good luck with that. I’d expect her to blow some of it on a big expensive party (maybe in Vegas?) for a few hundred of her closest friends. Maybe she’d donate some to a good cause. Yeah, “Trump Sues American Cancer Society” is a great headline to have during a campaign. This is why people bond appeals, so they don’t have problems like that.
Disgusting Clinton appointed judge who refused to allow DNA testing. The corrupt Clinton appointed judge claimed it was too late in the process. The disgusting Clinton appointed judge claims rape when the women can’t remember when she was raped. I am appalled at the New York Injustice. Outraged.

Big payday when the woman can’t remember when she was supposedly raped. I am disgusted with New York.
The “money” could have already been rapidly locked elsewhere, and not in the source funds. Ridiculous amount to be adjudged against an individual for a really stupid fantasy case of lawfare. Like the two lying election scammer scanners from Fulton County getting a judgement against Rudy Giuliani (who declared bankruptcy, and they ain’t getting a thing, for their stupid defamation case- two very un famed people to claim being defamed). So bankruptcy is also a possibility— or simpler a bond for the payment after appeal. No payment now or in the next 10 months. The crazy biotch can have a mental breakdown again with any luck no conservator.
I would say that the there may be a federal case that would stay the payment.
“So bankruptcy is also a possibility— or simpler a bond for the payment after appeal. No payment now or in the next 10 months.”
You’re right about the bond. Trump wouldn’t have to pay a Carroll a penny now. One common way to stay enforcement of a judgment is for Trump to arrange for a surety bond from a private company. The company would guarantee that, if the judgment is upheld on appeal and Trump doesn’t pay, the company would pay. Before the company would post that bond, though, it would want security. It’s in business to make a profit. It doesn’t want to get stuck with an eight-figure debt. Trump would do some combination of depositing cash with the company and giving it interests in his real property, so that it could foreclose if need be.
Yes, bankruptcy is also an option. It’s an absolute last resort, though.
You also wrote: “The ‘money’ could have already been rapidly locked elsewhere, and not in the source funds.” Sorry, I don’t understand your point. An alternative to a surety bond is that Trump could deposit the money with the court, where Carroll wouldn’t get it unless and until she wins the appeal. If Trump wins, the court returns the deposit to him. If that’s what you mean, yes, it’s a possibility.
“I would say that the there may be a federal case that would stay the payment.”
This already IS a federal case. Carroll sued Trump in federal district court.
If Trump bonds the appeal, he gets an automatic stay, whether Judge Kaplan likes it or not. Judge Kaplan also has the power to stay enforcement even without a bond. That’s what Trump’s lawyers requested and what Judge Kaplan just denied, per the OP.
Trump can ask the appellate court for a stay. He’ll have to either bond the appeal or get a stay with lightning speed, though, because, otherwise, next week Carroll’s lawyers can start grabbing his bank accounts.
He’s under the gun like this because his less-than-brilliant lawyer, Alina Habba, waited so long to do anything. Per the article linked in the OP, the delay was a factor in Kaplan’s decision:
“Mr. Trump’s current situation is a result of his own dilatory actions,” Kaplan wrote, adding that “he has had since January 26 to organize his finances with the knowledge that he might need to bond this judgment, yet he waited until 25 days after the jury verdict.”
I was in a court case where my attorney and I caught the opposing attorney and his client doctoring evidence documents. The judge seemed to not care and did nothing, did not even verbally punish.
Later, the judge chose to ignore our evidence and handed everything to our opponent.
Too many “judges” that are not judges in this land.
Corrupt? Incompetent? All of the above? Seems so.
Lesson learned, one can have the best attorney in the land and it does not help when the judge is no good.
Does NOT paying it as ordered, or posting the equivalent bond, move from civil to criminal charging with an arrest warrant ordered, etc.?
Are there any lawyers here who can tell me why Trump doesn’t sue this woman for defamation? Or did he? I don’t think he did.
To me this seems to be a case where this woman came out of nowhere, accused him of a rape from 30 years ago, she doesn’t remember the exact date, she has zero evidence, zero witnesses, no videotape, no DNA, she apparently accused 6 men in the past of rape, she seems to have mental issues - and Trump doesn’t sue her? This is a guy who sued a Miss Universe contestant for simply saying the pageant was fixed - a case he won BTW - and he doesn’t sue a wacko who accuses him of rape??
