WASHINGTON (AP) — Victoria Nuland, the third-highest ranking U.S. diplomat and frequent target of criticism for her hawkish views on Russia and its actions in Ukraine, will leave her post this month, the State Department said Tuesday.
Nuland, a career foreign service officer who served as Assistant Secretary of State for Europe during the Obama administration but retired after Donald Trump was elected president, returned to government as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs in the Biden administration.
She had been a candidate to succeed Wendy Sherman as deputy Secretary of State and had served as acting deputy since Sherman’s retirement seven months ago but lost an internal administration personnel battle when President Joe Biden nominated Kurt Campbell to the no. 2 spot. Campbell took office last month.

She may have had some foreign service positions early on, but she went in near the top as Strobe Talbot's protege during the Clinton years, and she's been on the political appointee side (or worked outside of government as a lobbyist or consultant), rather than the career foreign service side of the State Department since then.
It runs a might deeper than that, tho.

Once again, excellent post- nails it. And the name Kagan, most here should know is a popular truncation of the original Russian name— Kaganovich.
As in Lazar Kaganovich jewish Bolshevik born in Northern Ukraine— who helped Stalin to power and was First Secretary of the Communist Party in Ukraine in 1925- in the middle of the Holodomor which lasted into the 30’s. One evil Bolshie. Then after Stalin died tried to mount a Stalinist revolt against Khrushchev in 1957. Kicked out of the party, he died as the last old Bolshevik... in 1991!.
Lots of Kaganovichs in US State establishment (and one on Scotus)— working for world peace no doubt. Nuland is one evil harridan.
Bet if they check off shore bank accounts this monster is loaded to the gills. Something is afoot since she’s one of chief forces behind the 2014 overthrow of govt in Ukraine to a whole buncha stuff.
Now, let me get this straight these policies have sucked our lifeblood of billions of dollars an the guy who replaces her is this Bass guy who oversaw or pulling out of Afghanistan where we left billions of dollars worth of war toys?
