When it comes to mailing letters, many people do it by dropping their envelopes in the United States Postal Service's blue collection bins placed in neighborhoods across America. However, the USPS is now warning would-be mailers that those blue boxes might not be the safest option.
In a press release, the Postal Service explained that unfortunately, the collection bins have become very attractive to thieves looking to steal identities or checks, especially at specific times and on specific days. The agency stated, "The biggest variable enticing these criminals to steal are customers depositing mail into blue collection boxes after the last collection of the day or during Sundays and federal holidays."

Yay us!!!!
What about my mail in ballot?!?
I think hornets and skunks are under utilized in law enforcement.
Newman....
They're only interested in stinging pro-life grandmothers and Latin Mass goers.
I remember a cheap ass air mag would write free on the upper left corner of his outgoing mail. I caught him and informed him he didn’t deserve to use the perk save for us who did a tour in country. He was caught by a fellow A.P. and busted. He got an article 15 and soon after he was Adios Amigo!
Exactly,
as soon as going postal became a thing, myself going to a post office stopped being a thing.
I may have overreacted since going postal hasn’t been a thing in decades.
I’d warn others about similarly overreacting to merely stolen mail but I don’t want to hinder anyone adapting to decay.
I’ve been telling people this for a couple years now. Our blue box was stolen from outside the PO a couple times about 3 years ago. Next thing you know, everyone is taking their mail to the drop inside. People were still having checks stolen, washed, and cashed for low to mid 4 figures. Inside job. I heard about it early, I had inside sources at the PD.
DO. NOT. MAIL. CHECKS. if you don’t absolutely have to.
I have a bunch of letters from my dad when he was in USAAF with ‘free’ in the upper corner.
That’s not exactly what I take from the article.
Our central Phoenix post office has replaced the old pull-down doors on these boxes with ones with no door that seems almost impossible to rob.
The office said crooks inserted an adhesive that prevented mailings from dropping to the bottom and suspended them where they could be retrieved.
Inexplicably, but typicaly, the new drive-thru boxes require one to get out of car
to drop mail-—often resulting in long lines at the drive thru—not to mention the inconvenience.
I only send mail at a main post office and only do it before pick up hours. I never leave outgoing mail in my mailbox or at a corner drop box.
I’ve been told all my life to never send cash through the mail. It was good sense long before the idea of ‘everything digital’ was ever thought about.
And libs think EV charging stations will be ok!!
Well, at least it’s an attempt at a solution.
In 1958, when the jeweler Harry Winston donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian, he sent it through the US mail. He’s supposed to have said, “Well, if you can’t trust the U.S. Mail, what can you trust?”
But the problem of mail being stolen now doesn’t seem to be the fault of the postal service, any more than jewelry stores being looted is the fault of the store owners.
I think it’s a good idea to lock the boxes after the mail is collected every day. A lot of the theft attempts are probably taking place in the middle of the night, and if people can’t deposit mail after hours, their mail won’t be stolen.
A few bills I actually put in the mail are either taken to the main post office near my home, or given to the mailman who delivers the mail. I only know of a few actual mail boxes still around.
**But ballot drop boxes are safe????**
Yes. Because the crooks know that there’s no money in the envelopes,... and most of the private info is fake. AND...
They would be interferring with their commie friends’ efforts, which is very dangerous!
Well that’s one hell of a note…
Better to be warned about one more danger in Biden’s Amerrika..
