US Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered remarks on ‘Bloody Sunday’ at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama.
Garland told the black churchgoers that voter ID requirements are “discriminatory” and that he’s fighting to stop oppressive laws.
“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, the right from which all others flow. It is a right that members of this community bled for,” Garland said to the churchgoers.
Garland insisted the “right to vote is still under attack.”
“And that is why the Justice Department is fighting back,” he said. “That is why, one of the first things I did as Attorney General was to double the number of lawyers in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division. ”
Garland said voter ID requirements and restrictions of ballot ‘drop boxes’ are “discriminatory, burdensome and unnecessary.”
“That is why we are challenging efforts by states and jurisdictions to implement discriminatory, burdensome, and unnecessary restrictions on access to the ballot, including those related to mail-in voting, the use of drop boxes, and voter ID requirements,” Garland said.

Once again the Democrapt politicians are reminding African Americans that they are too stupid/dumb to know how to go get a state identification such as a driver’s license. Or don’t know where to go. But if these folks are buying that argument, perhaps they are that or are very gullible and/or have bought into having to do as their Democraptic masters say.
“It is a right that members of this community bled for,”
What about the lives sacrificed and blood shed by hundreds of thousands of people not from this community. Do they count?
Would I have to have an ID to get into the FBI headquarters? Isn’t that discriminatory?
Incompetent hack.
Alabama has had a voter ID requirement for several elections and every time I go vote there a lot of black people voting. Somehow, they manage to meet those burdensome and discriminatory requirements.
I’m totally ok with no voter ID if we go with one-day only voting and dipping finger in ink. That way we can be assured of one-person-one-vote (well, except for the folks with a freshly missing finger, then at max, one-person-ten-votes).
Discriminates against illegal, fraudulent votes.
One positive thing Mitch McConnell did was to keep this creep off the Supreme Court.
I thought you had to have a Real ID to get into a federal building. Or was that delayed again?
Let's remember The Turtle that way.
You walk into a polling place. They ask you for yourname and adress.
But showing a document proving you ARE that person and that you’re authorized to vote in that particular ward or precinct is somehow discriminatory?
Please!
Loser Socialists demand their installment into office.
Garland forgot to mention about voting IF YOU ARE QUALIFIED & I think that’s a very important detail. You are disqualified to vote more than once in the same election, I believe. You are disqualified to vote if you are deceased. Garland should know these things...does he just prefer to ignore them?
We can thank Mitch McConnell for keeping this Deep State bastard off the Scotus.
But to Democrats "No one is above the law," because to them, the law is whatever THEY say it is.
Voting is NOT the cornerstone of our republic. The Declaration and the Constitution are.
Hey Garland, requiring FBI agents to be able to read is discrimination too. Fix that, you insidious worm.
You are also disqualified to vote if you are a citizen of another country.
