Donald Trump says he's considering RON DESANTIS, Vivek Ramaswamy, Kristi Noem and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as potential VP picks

Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that six Republicans are on his shortlist for a potential running mate and vice president at a town hall on Monday.

In his first hint at who could be his Vice President if he wins the election in November, Trump's list included two former opponents and an ex-Democrat.

Trump, 77, confirmed Florida Governor and one-time foil Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are all among the ex-rivals being considered.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds, and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his shortlist.

A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway is the top choice to be running mate, followed by Scott in second and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in joint third.

'All of those people are good. They're all solid,' Trump told Laura Ingraham Monday night.

Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the biggest decision of his campaign.

'The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice always has no impact,' he said.

Trump noted that 2008 Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin did have an enormous impact, but faced attacks unlike anyone ever had before.

He then attempted to make his case for what qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the ticket.

'It's a very important position. You would like to get somebody who could help you from the voters' standpoint,' Trump said - but noted he wanted someone with 'common sense.'

DeSantis became a target of Trump's notorious mockery during the primary, though the Florida governor dropped out and endorsed him.

Gabbard, who served several terms in the House of Representatives and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, has since left the party ..

Not really believing this. Hes made bad personal picks but these seem abnormally worse.

I get it, but they’d probably both be better choices than Pence was.

I hear that Ron DeSantis is thinking about getting back in and is asking people if Mitt Romney or Susan Collins should be on his shortlist for VP. Two sources have confirmed it to Fox News. Pass it on.

As long as Trump doesn’t die in office. For me, that’s the big risk with those picks.

Yes, or otherwise get removed from office.

Following the New York judge’s ruling 2 days ago, Ron Desantis is actively asking people if he should get back in and if Kevin McCarthy should be his running mate for VP. Two sources have confirmed it for the Daily Mail.

With DeSantis, who would be moving their state of residence?

That's a good question.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO who would you vote for? BIDEN or the DEMOCRAT?

Think about what you just wrote!! This is a do or die election... Trump must receive ALL VOTES no matter WHO he puts on the ticket....

Agree that carrying on his legacy would best psuggest Vivek, who is untainted by the deep state and has a plan to attack it head on.

Agreed. Scott is very low energy. Byron Donalds would be awesome; so would JD Vance.

Just wouldn’t vote for President or I’d vote 3rd party. If Trump picked any of those as his running mate, his judgment is too bad for him to be relied on. If Trump died in office, RFK Jr would be a nightmare for certain. Gabbard very possibly could be a nightmare. Haley would be a deep state puppet.

I’d hope for better in 2028.

Trump was being diplomatic.

To be clear, Laura Ingraham presented the names Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron DeSantis, Byron Donalds, Tim Scott, Tulsi Gabbard, Kristi Noem and asked if they were on the VP shortlist and Trump diplomatically said yes.

That doesn’t mean its limited to these names which some are assuming. pic.twitter.com/MYaFUYdpGc— Righteous⚡️Crusader (@Craftmastah) February 21, 2024

Exactly. Laura said the names and President Trump was respectful. He would never pick DeSantis and said just last month it would be HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

This guy, a consititional scholar say you can be rom the same state

Question: Does the U.S. Constitution prevent candidates from running for President and Vice President if they come from the same state? If so, why?

From Kevin Wagner
Answer: This is one of those rules that many people get wrong. There actually is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that prevents candidates for President and Vice President who live in the same state from running together. As a practical matter, it might be a bad idea, since presidential tickets are often put together to create geographic diversity. But, having two from the same state is permissible.

The confusion comes from a misinterpretation of the Constitution. Article II, paragraph 3 states that “The electors ... shall vote for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.” It’s a bit of unclear, but what it prohibits is an elector from casting both of his or her votes for candidates from the same state in which the elector lives.

We don’t need our own black midwits to counter theirs. The GOP never learns.

How do they get around the constitution? If two people from the same state are on the ticket, that state can only choose one.
