Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that six Republicans are on his shortlist for a potential running mate and vice president at a town hall on Monday.
In his first hint at who could be his Vice President if he wins the election in November, Trump's list included two former opponents and an ex-Democrat.
Trump, 77, confirmed Florida Governor and one-time foil Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are all among the ex-rivals being considered.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds, and former Democrat Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his shortlist.
A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway is the top choice to be running mate, followed by Scott in second and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in joint third.
'All of those people are good. They're all solid,' Trump told Laura Ingraham Monday night.
Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the biggest decision of his campaign.
'The one thing that always surprises me is that the VP choice always has no impact,' he said.
Trump noted that 2008 Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin did have an enormous impact, but faced attacks unlike anyone ever had before.
He then attempted to make his case for what qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the ticket.
'It's a very important position. You would like to get somebody who could help you from the voters' standpoint,' Trump said - but noted he wanted someone with 'common sense.'
DeSantis became a target of Trump's notorious mockery during the primary, though the Florida governor dropped out and endorsed him.
Gabbard, who served several terms in the House of Representatives and ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat, has since left the party ..

There are much better VP choices that haven’t been mentioned. It shouldn’t be anybody who is, either, in political office, already, or who is running for a major political office. The VP position is a political step down, for the majority of mentioned candidates. There are individuals who should be major political players who aren’t, right now. Two of such persons are Lee Zeldin of New York and Harmeet Dhillon of California. They are, both, MAGA Republicans who were rejected from becoming the next RNC Chairperson. Both are more than capable of helping Donald Trump get more support and get more votes, during the November general election, and both would instantly get more attention, right away. It would drain pro-Democrat Party money from a politically blue state. This is a missed opportunity that probably won’t actually happen, unfortunately. Now, the best way to increase heart attacks from The Left/RINOS would be to pick Donald Trump, Jr. to be the official VP pick.

When people say the list is moronic, the list is stupid, it won't be any of them or there are better candidates out there... what they mean is their preferred candidate is not on the list :)

Ben Carson is a good man. And he is black so that would sure up that side. Many of whom are actually sick of the democrats. So many on that list would hurt him more than help him. I don’t trust a bunch of them be more than Rino’s.
DeSantis is by far the smartest pick.

Trump will need decisive, fearless people such as DeSantis and Richard Grenell in his cabinet to EFFECTIVELY accomplish things despite foot dragging and resistance from the Deep Staters. Trump ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO AVOID passive wimps such as Sessions and devious backstabbing saboteurs such as Haley and Barr. And Trump also needs to have someone close to him tasked with helping to dampen his susceptibility to flattery.
The Deep State and its powers need to be dismantled and it will take TRUE PATRIOTS to do that. No “ticket punchers”.
That said, no matter WHO TRUMP picks for VP... even if it is someone who I think would be a disastrous choice, I am VOTING for TRUMP and SUPPORTING him 100%!!!!!.....we have no other choice folks. SO we need to prepare ourselves now. We may not be happy with the choice.... but better to set that behind us NOW!!!!
I trust Vivek and Scott even less than Gabbard.
With DeSantis, who would be moving their state of residence?
RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard are the only two who have been mentioned that would keep me from voting for Trump. I’d add Nikki Haley to those.
