The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave Jack Smith, the special counsel prosecuting former President Donald Trump, one week to respond to the former president’s emergency application asking the justices to halt an appeals court decision that rejected Trump’s claim that he is immune from criminal charges.
The high court’s decision to set a deadline for Smith to respond by next Tuesday at 4 p.m. suggests the justices are setting up a not-so-speedy schedule for a case that has already seen its early March trial date cast aside. The Supreme Court typically calls for speedy responses to emergency applications, though Smith’s office has routinely made its filings ahead of schedule.
Criminal proceedings against Trump in his trial on charges of attempting to subvert the 2020 election will remain paused in the meantime. Depending on whether the justices decide to grant the case for oral argument, the trial could be pushed into the middle of the 2024 campaign or even past the election.
“President Trump’s claim that presidents have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for their official acts presents a novel, complex, and momentous question that warrants careful consideration on appeal,” Trump’s lawyer wrote in a 57-page filing to the high court on Monday, asking the justices to move deliberately.
Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, asked the court to take into account the campaign schedule and alleged Smith is attempting to interfere in the election with his bullish attempts to hold the trial before voters cast their ballots.

When will the “Supreme Court” rule on the brief that Ed Meese wrote pointing out that “Jack Smith” has no Constitutional authority to run his own so-called special counsel office just because he and his wifey are buddies with Merrick Garfinkel.

Smith has nothing to worry about. Trump lynch mob bass turds always win in the Feral Courts.
This Jack Smith seems to be some sort of European court Grand Inquisitor who is working here now, using the non-Constitutional rules of that tribunal type court.
That’s why I call him Mad Jack the Grand Inquisitor!

Saw a window sticker on a little black POS compact car yesterday that said
“Jack Smith fan club member”.
Would have enjoyed watching him have an accident due to the way he was driving.

Um... what does he mean Smith is “attempting to interfere in the election”? More like has already and still is interfering in the election. Parsing words with the USSC is probably not going to work for him... especially since some of the justices are definitely ‘compromised’.
The left is setting precedents that should never be set in a free America... unless they’re planning on us not being quite so free very soon, and thus... no worries. The USSC needs to strike this and the other election interference lawsuits down with extreme prejudice.
Then why is it happening, and why isn't the court doing anything about it? I know, the only answer there is says the left gets away with stuff. But if it were true, why aren't Trump's lawyers pursuing that?
You are right. Jack (Off) Smith worked at the criminal court of the Hague tryhing to be an inquisitor who thought rubbing some socialists nose in their oown crap was a human rights violation.
