Police arrested a suspect Wednesday after a brazen theft inside an Apple Store in Berkeley, California, where shocked customers watched the scene unfold.
Detectives with the Emeryville Police Department took Tyler Mims into custody, Fox Business reported Thursday.
Video footage shows the suspect, wearing all black and a pair of red shoes, allegedly grabbing items inside the store and ripping their cords out of the display tables. The store’s alarm is heard, and people are seen watching from a distance.

Yes, true. But he likely immediately went out and sold them cheaply to other idiots who thought they’d work.
Too bad they can’t design the iPhones such that the minute they are signaled to be bricked they make an ear-piercing screech that can’t be stopped unless the battery drains or the internal battery is disconnected.
My understanding is that the phones stolen become useless, because the phone manufacturers have the serial numbers and they just paperweight the phones.
The only value they would have is finding a sucker who thinks he’s getting a deal.
However, there could be some technological to bypass the safeguards for all I know.
It used to be the average bank robbery netted app. 5k
> Man is stupid. Not a one of them will work outside the store
Totally correct in all aspects. Apple disables any new devices that have been stolen from apple stores.
This guy sells the iphones to street hawkers who in turn sell to passers-by on the street who think they are getting a discount deal. Unfortunately for them they are buying boat anchors.
I imagine apple charges the lost inventory to an accounting category called the “cost of doing business” — or something similar.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but these phones are basically useless, are they not?
They won’t be allowed to connect to a wireless service, and also Apple can control the device and leave it “locked.”
Or do criminal gangs have the ability to manipulate them to make these devices useful?
Hard to blame anyone for not getting involved with our poisoned culture.
Anyone trying to stop a criminal is most likely to be the one ending up in jail, financially ruined, killed or fired. Or, any combination.
He has a family to feed and medical school tuition to pay.
I saw that today. Obviously white supremacy.
Apple has the tech to track the phones even if they are shut down
They had this guy aced before he knew he busted
Industrial grade stupid
He will probably be release without bail and never be heard from again
Its Oakland, after all
I really don’t understand why so many blacks feel it’s simply their right to go into a store and take whatever they want, UNEARNED, and there are apparently no criminal consequences to it. It’s not a victimless crime, because the cost of what they steal eventually comes out of the pockets of the honest, paying customers. When did I ever sign up for them to have better phones, TVs, clothing, etc. than I worked for, simply by stealing it?
Hey, don’t underestimate him. He might have been building a rocketship.
How can they report the man’s wardrobe but not his skin color?
They consider it reparations. They want the backpay for the cotton they picked.
We’re not in the era of the Rooftop Koreans any more. Back then, DAs everywhere were sympathetic to folks who went to the defense of lives and property.
Now I wouldn’t intervene in a property crime under any circumstances. To help a person who’s being attacked, yes. But even then that’s rolling the dice. Remember that Marine who intervened on a NYC subway? He’s charged with murder.
Disclaimer: I live in a very blue county. I might think differently if elsewhere.
Criminal gangs are multi-billion dollar operations and multi-faceyed, so they probably have people within whose job it is to bypass Big Tech safeguards.
FYI
APPL hates our guts.
Most likely the city this took place in hates our guts
in a state that hates our guts.
I’m sure there is good reason beyond boo boo to care but it escapes me.
“California Man Steals $49K Worth of iPhones from Apple Store”
Wow, that must be dozens of them!
