By merely asking for examples, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas calmly destroyed respondents’ argument for disqualifying former President Donald Trump from Colorado’s 2024 presidential primary ballot.
The moment came on Thursday morning, during oral arguments on Trump’s appeal to overturn the Colorado Supreme Court’s Dec. 19 decision to keep him off the Centennial State’s 2024 primary ballot. Colorado’s highest court claimed in its ruling that the former president can be “disqualified” from holding office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which stipulates that “[n]o person” who has previously sworn an oath as an officer of the United States and has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion shall” serve in any of an enumerated list of offices of the United States.
The president and vice president are not included in this list of positions.

“God bless U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the best SCOTUS Justices ever.”
Having had the pleasure of meeting with Justice T in both formal and informal settings, and having the opportunity to sit and just chat with him for 30 minutes about “this and that”, I agree that he is one of the best Justices ever seated on the Court. His knowledge about the law, humanity, and life in general is just amazing.
I also have a picture of my son and grandson (at age 10) with Justice Thomas setting on our piano which I can see from here.
IMO, Mr. Justice Clarence Thomas is The GOAT, and I’m not at all clear who’s in second place.
The one (long since deceased) I’m thinking might be #2 makes a VERY politically incorrect choice.
The justices of the Supreme Court have to realize that going along with states deciding who is on a ballot for national office would open a big old can of worms that would never be fixed.
One would think he would be an inspiration to Black students.
><><
Why are you assuming that he’s not? He is an inspiration to many Black students/people.
I think Justice Thomas would be an inspiration to all Americans. He certainly is to me.
I'm not, I said one would think he would be a inspiration to Black students.
Good
True, but I would think he would especially be an inspiration to Black students who are constantly told they can't...because of racism.
For #2 I’d have a hard time choosing anyone but Scalia.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
Not much of a track record as a Berserker during first term for us to go on.
Amen to that.
Let’s just imagine for a moment that a given POTUS candidate otherwise qualifies for the national POTUS ballot, or even for a party primary ballot for that party’s PUTUS nominee, is, in the considered opinion of the Secretary of State of a given U.S. state, a non-NBC.
Would that Secretary of State not be entitled to say: “No, your name will not appear on this state’s ballot.”?
isn’t that what SCOTUS is for
The irony is brutal.
Probably because it had no bearing on this case.
I follow Supreme Court hearings and this was the ugliest smack down I have ever see. Really brutal. 9-0
Jackson’s questioning seemed to indicate that she was opposed to the Colorado decision.
Lol...pretty much.
I see your point now. It’s unfortunate that people are often told they can’t achieve great things because of racism. Justice Thomas is an incredible man. I wish we had more like him.
Good analogy.
