What we know about US strikes on Iran-linked targets in Iraq and Syria
France 24 ^

...

The US military said the air strikes hit more than 85 targets inside Iraq and Syria targeting both the elite Quds force of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and affiliated militia groups.

The US strikes in the west of Iraq killed at least 16 people, including civilians, Iraqi government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi said on Saturday.

"The security of Iraq and the region will find itself on the brink of an abyss" because of the strikes, Awadi said in a statement, and denied "false allegations" that there had been "prior coordination" with Washington over the strikes.

The US strikes overnight in eastern Syria killed 23 pro-Iran fighters, a war monitor said Saturday in a new toll.

"The toll has risen to 23 dead: 10 pro-Iran fighters in the Deir Ezzor area and 13 in the Mayadeen area," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, adding that nine of the fighters were Syrians while six were Iraqis. There were no reported civilian deaths.

The Syrian military had issued a statement earlier Saturday saying that the overnight strikes on its territory killed "a number of civilians and soldiers, wounded others and caused significant damage to public and private property".

"The occupation of parts of Syrian territory by US forces cannot continue," it added, affirming the army's "determination to liberate all Syrian territory from terrorism and occupation".

Iran on Saturday also condemned the strikes on Iraq and Syria as a "strategic mistake" by its arch-foe, without saying whether or not any they caused any Iranian casualties.

...

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said that at least 26 major sites housing pro-Iranian groups were destroyed, including weapons depots.

Well, Biden made it. He has his war based upon attacks while he chastises Israel for doing the exact same thing for not using restraint. Typical liberal reaction. Say one thing, do another, then bail after people die. And almost always with our tail between our legs. (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan...)

You can’t fight terrorists with combat. You play into their game as they are overjoyed to die for their religion and getting honored for making us die for their diety. Stupid.

“I have a crazy idea. If we don’t have troops in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, then troops can’t get killed there...”

Hey, hey... don’t confuse the idiots of Bidet&Co with facts and common sense. That’s not fair!

If we apply deep cuts to social security and send the savings to the Dept of Defense, we can chase those sandal wearing demons away from our oil.

After the waste of Afghanistan and Iraq, we don’t have much to complain about. The cheerleading about those two wars and the trillions spent while this cost a few million? Kinda embarrassing.

“Wonder what the whole operation works out to in terms of taxpayer dollars per terrorist killed?”

*************

One thing for sure, the amount we spent on this operation was wildly asymmetrical. Incredibly expensive weapons, logistics and resources are being spent to retaliate against relatively primitive and low cost threats.

But the MIC is quite happy this morning.

“We’re using $2m missiles to shoot down $20,000 drones. How long can that last?”

A few keystrokes will pay for that. The money printing machine runs 24X7. /sarc

If we don’t have troops in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, then troops can’t get killed there…

_____________________________________________________

That’s absolutely unacceptable to the Neo-Cons on FR. Not only must we have troops almost everywhere, we must cry “foul!” and bomb anyone who resists the efforts to imperialize.

That was sure nice of the enemy to provide an exact body count so quickly. Maybe with that kind of cooperation, we could learn to become good friends!

Reminiscent of the air war over VietNam. Fleets of B52s bombing huts and tunnels in the jungle.
