Up to 1,000 Florida National Guard troops will be sent to the Texas border to stop the influx of migrants, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday morning.
The soldiers will be deployed “based on Texas’ needs,” according to a press release on the Florida governor’s website.
The Florida State Guard will also be sent to Texas to support Gov. Greg Abbott’s effort to repel migrants at the border — which is the first time the group has been deployed out of state, the release noted.
These deployments are in addition to officers from the Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement who are already at the border, the office said.
The governor, 45, made the announcement standing in front of members of the Florida National Guard and an orange sign that read “Stop the Invasion” in bold, black letters.
“States have every right to defend their sovereignty and we are pleased to increase our support to Texas as the Lone Star State works to stop the invasion across the border,” DeSantis added. “Our reinforcements will help Texas to add additional barriers, including razor wire along the border. We don’t have a country if we don’t have a border,” he added.
The former Republican presidential candidate also slammed the Biden administration’s perceived inaction at the border in the wake of US Customs and Border Protection’s record 2.5 million illegal immigrant encounters in 2023.
“[President] Biden has the authority to close this border today. If he wanted to, he lacks the will to get the job done. He lacks the capacity to see the problem for what it is and to get the job done,” DeSantis said, according to Fox News Digital. ***

Here is me waiting for all the DeSanctimonious haters to show up criticizing the governor.
pointless unless they actually plan on shooting invaders
He’s great as a gov, just not as a presidential candidate. Probably partly because his donors wanted him to do and say terrible things
Amen. It is out of control and risking American lives, time to protect our border.
He has stopped acting like a Presidential candidate and started acting like a governor again, and I for one am very glad.
GOOD. More of this, please.
Yep he is back in his lane. He has work to do if he wants to mend fences
I am stunned to be honest.
I didn’t know Ron had it in him.
I am waiting too.
Ron’s mistake was listening to his advisers and big donors.
He could have (and still could) start working with GOP governors with a unified message.
This is the smartest move he has made since he ignored COVID shutdown and got Cruise ships and Orlando tourism moving again.
I’m not a fan of DeSantis. But DeSantis and Texas governor Abbott deserve great credit for how they have responded to the illegal immigrant invasion.
Their efforts just might have made a difference. The squealing from the big city D mayors is evidence of that.
Should Trump return to the White House, both of those guys should get the Presidential Medal of Freedom. But if only one medal is available, give it to Abbott.
They criticized him for criticizing Disney, so this would not be beyond them.
This is great. Thanks Governor DeSantis.
And that photo of illegals pulled out of the river did succeed in increasing my sympathy... ...for US Citizens.
Well, if desanctus thought it was so important to send Florida National Guard to the border to help Texas...
Why didn't he send thousands earlier, before at least 2-3 million illegal aliens crossed over just this past year, alone?
“Why didn’t he send thousands earlier, before at least 2-3 million illegal aliens crossed over just this past year, alone?”
Because he couldn’t as Texas had not mobilized.
How much did you get paid for that disgusting post.
I am not the least bit surprised.
I didn’t know Ron had it in him.
It's exactly the sort of thing I expect from him. Incidentally, I didn't buy into Mr. Trump's childish "poo-flinging" antics.
My issues with DeSantis had nothing to do with what anyone said about him—it was the chaos of the SuperPac silliness that was my first waving red flag.
He could still get indicted for flagrant campaign violations—the SuperPac and campaign were deeply intertwined in flagrant violation of clear campaign law—totally unforced errors that just got crazier and crazier as the campaign progressed.
What if Biden decides to federalize all national guard as a way to stop this?
Not even sure if it is even possible.
This just in:
The Biden Administration will be shipping Water Wings to Mexico.
