On Tuesday, El Paso police joined forces with other members of the community, like the Borderland Rainbow, to ask for help when it comes to being more inclusive with those in the transgender community.
“Our primary responsibility is to respect and uphold the dignity, human rights and constitutional rights of all persons,” said El Paso Executive Police Assistant Chief Zina Silva.
Silva went in front of council members to go over some of the policies and procedures that were discussed with the city council in late 2023.
“Back in September of 2023 you directed the city manager and the city attorney to evaluate policies and training that would improve how transgender and gender diverse individuals will be identified by the El Paso police department both internally and externally,” said Silva.
Silva said that police were asked by the city council to join forces with other groups and make a committee with the Borderland Rainbow Center, sun city pride, and other diverse groups to go over ideas of what is appropriate when addressing the trans community.
“You asked that when we encounter an individual, that we ask what their preferred name, gender identity and pronoun will be when we address them and to refer to those individuals that request to be called to specific name that we use that in our conversations with them,” said Silva.
Other protocols and procedures include officers will not conduct any searches to determine an individual's sex.
When transferring custody of gender-diverse individuals to other law enforcement agencies or other facilities, the officer will verbally advise the receiving agency/officer that the individual is gender-diverse and will relay any relevant identification-related information, including how the individual would like to be addressed amongst many other things.

Ain’t that nice. No patting downs in private places. Criminals will know where to conceal their weapons. Is El Paso a left-wing haven?
Well then, are they going to set up a free “gender clinic” for migrants? It wouldn’t be inclusive if they couldn’t get a free transition on entering the country.
Out in the west Texas town of El Paso
Worse, it is just about as bad in southern states as it is up north.
I hope it can be turned around before it gets sure enough awkward.
