U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert's middling finish in a straw poll Thursday night drew gasps from the crowd that had just witnessed the Colorado lawmaker face off against eight other Republicans in a congressional primary debate at a rec center in Fort Lupton.
The headline-grabbing incumbent's performance in the decidedly non-scientific survey — Boebert landed in fifth place with just over 10% of the vote, behind three veteran state lawmakers and a former talk radio host who ran last cycle for the U.S. Senate — surprised some in the room but drew shrugs from others, who pointed out that the hall was filled with local Republicans loyal to other candidates who shared the debate stage.
The 90-minute debate, which drew national attention, took place less than a month after Boebert, the state's most prominent elected Republican, joined the already crowded GOP primary in the sprawling 4th Congressional District, which covers Colorado's Eastern Plains, anchored by suburban Douglas County.
She announced in late December that would seek another term in Congress from the solidly Republican seat after moving from the more competitive Western Slope-based district she's represented since 2021. Boebert said during the debate that she recently moved to Windsor in Weld County.
Out of 117 votes cast, Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg, a former longtime state state lawmaker, led the straw poll with 22 votes, followed by former House Minority Leader Mike Lynch, R-Wellington, who received 20 votes, Douglas County filmmaker Deborah Flora at 18 votes and House Minority Whip Richard Holtorf, R-Akron, with 17 votes.
Boebert got 12 votes, narrowly edging out former congressional nominee Peter Yu's 11 votes, with three more candidates — former state Sen. Ted Harvey, R-Highlands Ranch, Weld County Council member Trent Leisy and former congressional staffer Chris Phelen — trailing in single digits.

So she moved to a better Republican district from a swing district? Ok..got it...I like her, but she should stayed in her district...
LOL...
She belongs on the Jerry Springer show. A fake, a phony, a fraud.
“You do realize that CD 4 has candidates lined up who are much more highly principled than Boebert?”
Your current representative is Ken Buck. He went from conservative to RINO in 2023. Before him, it was the flaky moderate Cory Gardner. Neither of them were “principled”.
Right On!
Ken Buck is what happens when any politician stays in DC too long. I'm not in favor of my representative serving longer than six years - no matter how conservative.
Boebert destroyed her life without even making it through her second term. Her focus needs to be on rebuilding that.
Thanks!
She brought discredit to the office she was elected to serve.
What a heap of Ram’s Dung! I can think of at least a dozen m effers, brothereffers, homo effers, and corrupt braindead sumbitchs that brings so much to our Honorable Congress.
We deserve better. Well , i guess some good karma brings us Fetterman 2.0.
Boebert’s ex is no gem, and wasn’t supportive enough. I thought personal life, family and children were off limits? Except for pedophiles, I’m guessing.
She helped rid the House of Kevin McCarthy. She and handful of others are the reason we haven't wasted $61 billion more on Ukraine.
Oh please, the fainting couch is in the laddies room. You are one of those pearl clutching freaks that only shows-up around election time to stump for the uniparty. You’ve been here for ever, yet no one knows you and you never post other then to demean the real conservatives in the races. That makes you a meaningless POS in my book.
Kiss my lily-white ass.
Who do you think worked with an elite IT team after the 2020 election to track down voting irregularities in the data? I was responsible for Georgia.
Uniparty?
You obviously have never read my posts - or you're just a putz...
I live in CD 4. I've also been heavily involved in Colorado conservative politics for a long, long time.
Boebert wasn't one of the key votes to oust McCarthy - quite the opposite. History and facts are important.
bttt
Better to be whatever you desire to label me than an asswipe like you...Just sayin'
Just a fork??
That will be hard on her opponents.
This is quite the oddity.
Why are people concerned about impact on her political career?
Having a political career is the definition of Swamp. Of course, these other people running are also from the local Swamp seeking to transition to the national Swamp.
It’s quite odd.
