I think it’s not a conflict, the difference are the russian deaths (crew of plane)

My hunch: We saw a Russian transport plane, gave the coordinates to our troops, whoops, I meant ‘mercenaries’, and then they took down the easy target.
With that, Ukraine took credit and bragged about it - now they find out that there was 74 UKRAINIANS killed on that plane - so the bragging probably doesn’t make their government look all that good to its people...so now it’s time to ‘make it go away’.
By tomorrow it’ll be 100 Ukrainians, next week 1000.
I think there probably were several violations of the Geneva convention here. One was holding POWs in a war zone. Another was not informing the opposite side (or a neutral party) of the time and means of a prisoner transfer.

Or Uke intel knew there were POWs on the plane and shot it down to kill the “ traitors” and try to pin an atrocity on the Russians
It would be interesting to know who were these POWs and where they were being airlifted and why..
Remember the Ukes shelled a Uke POW camp last year because some of the POWs were going to be witnesses in Russian war crimes trials for their acts in Mariupol …the Red Cross “ investigated” but nothing came of it, meaning…..

I doubt we ever find out for sure, but maybe also it’s just the ‘value’ that Ukrainians put on human lives. After all, there were also likely a dozen or more Russians on the plane...so maybe that was all they wanted, regardless of the collateral damage.

Not informing the Ukrainians that their POWs were in it was a violation. If the Ukrainians had known that they would not have fired on the plane.
Btw it is also a violation to put POWs on a plane, ship or location to act as “human shields”.
Otherwise the plane was a valid military target.
The article mentions it was carrying “ air defense gear” so its also possible a covert op was planned to prevent some Western weapon system and the men trained to operate it…from falling into Russian hands

Nice try, but there is NO WAY that the Russians would expose THEIR CREWS, THEIR SOLDIERS, and THEIR AIRCRAFT to this type of attack.
It’s OBVIOUS that some trigger-happy UKRAINIAN saw a nice, big, juicy, target and fired away...and I suspect that there will be hell to pay in Ukraine for that crap.

I read it was part of a prisoner exchange, but still being investigated.
That’s just what Russians are saying, but everyone knows Russians lie all the time. There is no reason to trust them.
It may be a sensible strategy for Russians to lie all the time because the only ones who believe them are absolute idiots, who never mind being lied to no matter how many times or how blatantly. For these immoral bastards - no downside.
