You got to be kidding. There is so much disinformation in this war it’s difficult to know what the facts are.
Prisoners of war are typically captured in a war zone, that does not constitute holding a prisoner in a war zone.
The Ruskies were transporting them some place, likely out of the war zone. How do we know that they never notified anyone?
And is the Uke communications system so good that if the Ruskies did tell someone, that those manning the antiaircraft weapons knew or even cared about it?
For crying out loud, this is not a gentleman’s game of chess. This is war where things happen, governments lie, military leaders cheat, huge mistakes are made and people actually get killed.
Then the Ukrainians have to respond. If they knew that specific flight was bringing POWs then it was Ukrainian negligence or some other fault.
Regardless, POW treatment is specifically covered in detail in the Geneva convention. It is supposed to be followed, on penalty of international and national consequences. The US (and other civilized nations) prosecutes its own defaulters.

Agree. Someone screwed up. My hunch is that the Ukrainian government was properly notified, but it didn’t flow down properly to the parties that control the missiles as I also doubt that the Ukrainians would intentionally shoot down a plane full of their POWs.

I’m skeptical about this story. POWs are generally not transported by aircraft, especially one also carrying critical military equipment. And, if this was shot down in the Belgorod region, that critical military equipment was either being removed FROM the war zone in Ukraine or the POWs were being returned TO the war zone in Ukraine. The article mentions “conflicting reports.”
IF there were POWs on board, protocol requires that information be provided to the proper parties.
This might just be Russian psy-ops. But we’ll see how this story develops.

You have posted that you think the Ukraine government considers their POWs traitors and that it was probably better for the POWs to die this way than face what was going to be done to them.

Youre incredibly stupid. Stop yrying to make the Ukes into some sort of heroes. They were killed by their own side which shot down the plane. Doh!
