CHICAGO -- Mayor Brandon Johnson is pushing a plan that would end natural gas hookups in new buildings and homes as the city aims to phase out fossil fuels that intensify the climate crisis, but the idea is already drawing resistance from some unions.
Johnson plans to introduce a "clean" buildings ordinance Wednesday that would end new gas hookups for cooking, heating and hot-water tanks and require electric power instead.
The idea has been kicked around Chicago in recent years. In October 2022, City Hall announced that outside advisers, including advocacy organizations, had recommended a ban as part of a larger climate-fighting plan. Those recommendations inspired the buildings ordinance, which was not publicly available as of Monday.
The law would set an indoor emissions standard that eliminates use of fossil fuels in new construction and building additions of more than 10,000 square feet. It would likely go into effect one year after it's passed by the City Council.
Gas would be replaced by all-electric systems.
"It's a no brainer for anyone building new construction today," said John Gay, president of architecture firm JAQ Corp.

I was in the electricity business for 35 years and enjoyed it when engineers were respected and knew how to build large-scale, reliable, economical systems that kept the lights on year-round. Then the politicians took over and ruined the industry. I couldn’t take the endless politics any more and left the around 2000.
“filth who dick around with our energy” is so very true. The industry was taken over by Cassandras who didn’t have a lick of power engineering sense and wouldn’t ask the power engineers simple questions like “what happens if we shut down all of our fossil fuel plants?”
Not good enough, He should immediately BAN ALL Natural Gas anything on City property.

Remember, with electric smart meters, they can single you out and cut you off....remotely.

Short answer…YES, they are that stupid. Ask a dim voter, they’ll tell you that they believe the people they vote for are SMARTER than they. I heard that said many times by the adults in my family growing up. Consequently that insane talk prompted me to never vote dimocRAT my entire life.
