The former president has spoken highly of the New York congresswoman, and his allies say she's high on the list of vice presidential prospects.
WASHINGTON — During a candlelit dinner with Mar-a-Lago members in late December, former President Donald Trump walked around the table as the conversation turned to one of the biggest decisions he’d have to make should he become the Republican nominee: Whom should he pick to be his running mate?
That’s when Rep. Elise Stefanik, the hard-charging upstate New York Republican, came up, according to a person at the dinner table. Attendees around Trump raved about her viral moment just weeks before, when she grilled three university presidents at a congressional hearing about antisemitism on campus.
At the thought of Stefanik as a possible choice for vice president, Trump nodded approvingly.
“She’s a killer,” Trump said, according to the person at the event.
Ever since then, Trump and a growing group of allies have started to look more closely at Stefanik as a running mate, according to eight people familiar with the matter, including people in Trump’s orbit, Stefanik fundraising bundlers and former Trump administration officials.
At the time, the 39-year-old congresswoman was at the crest of a wave of national publicity after taking on the top leaders of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Their answers to the question, “Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate [your college’s] rules on bullying and harassment?” eventually resulted in two of them resigning and brought a firestorm of criticism on the schools.
Last congressman to run for VP?
William Miller?
Last to win?
John Nance Garner?
He could go with Pompeo to emphasize foreign policy.
“tantrum she threw at the Harvard president”....That is a ridiculously gross exaggeration of what actually transpired.
Yikes.
And then you add a 39 year old woman into the mix. A woman from New York....
That doesn’t sound like a winning strategy.
She eviscerated Lib reporter during a recent interview.....multiple topics, refuted the premise of the questions, with depth and history.
People close to the campaign have floated Ben Carson’s name for a while now.
Greg Kelly a couple weeks ago: There is a 90% chance of Elise Stefanik being Trump’s VP.
Oh wait a minute. You forgot Gerald Ford.
But then everyone forgets Gerald Ford.
Matt Whitaker
I need to wait a minute myself. Ford was appointed. He did not - as you say - run.
It will be a woman.
Whitaker is THE man for Attorney General.
He served as interim AG between the clowns Sessions and Barr. Unfortunately the Senate would not have approved his name being put forward. Too bad. We got stuck with Barr.
The Donald can move to Bedminster, NJ.
She will fight harder than Pence.
Can’t think of a better qualified candidate.
Sanders has executive credentials and she can chew up the enemedia and spit them out, effortlessly, as she did in the Trump WH.
Stefanik is young, tough as nails, can think on her feet, and, most importantly, can aid President Trump in strategically putting Congress on its ear to get what is needed.
She’s a home run choice.
poilivere or milei
Nobody should like her voting record in Congress. She's a complete squish, and nobody needs to shrug that off and bother "explaining" that it's because "Duh, sheez frum Noo Yawk" and therefore must automatically represent a liberal district.
Her district is solidly Republican and she doesn't need to run shrieking hysterically to the left in order to get elected. But she does so anyway.
Stefanik would be OK but Kari Lake would be better.
