Here is a question to be posed to the candidates seeking the presidency, in particular, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Why does it seem impossible to resolve the most important challenges facing the nation?
Throughout American history and especially in times of crisis, the nation has been able to come together. Today, that is unlikely. Sixty-plus years ago in the Senate, when Sens. Lyndon Johnson (D-Texas), Everett Dirksen (R-Ill.) and Mike Mansfield (D-Mont.) served, and 40 years ago when Rep. Tip O’Neill was Speaker of the House, despite huge policy differences, partisanship could be defeated.
LBJ contributed to Dirksen’s reelection campaign. O’Neill and President Ronald Reagan could have drinks in the White House.

Because if we solved the ‘problems’ we would not need politicians to ‘solve’ them for us.................
Right now the biggest problem facing the nation is out of control government.
Kinda doubt the crooks in DC have any interest in addressing that.
After reading J Evetts Haley’s book on LBJ, I don’t think Johnson is a very good example either to say the least.
According to RAT “democrazy”, the right to kill babies is this country’s biggest problem. Liberal females live for that right like I fight for the right to own an AR-15.
Article:
“the nation has been able to come together.”
The leftist goal is for us to sit down, shut up and obey.
That is what they mean by “come together”.
The Hill article lists “problems” which are an an unequivocally far-left wish-list.
The BS is that what that clown thinks are “problems”
Bi-partisanship is mythology. The definition of bi-partisanship is conservative capitulation.
Sorry, who’s pushing all the identity politics/division again?
How I hate The Hill. They’re liars and pretend we are a democracy which is tyranny, instead of what we really are, a Free Constitutional Republic.
Please stop posting from the Hill. They are unreliable and spread lies.
Why does it seem impossible to resolve the most important challenges facing the nation?

Because the cultural common-ground is largely non-existent at this point. Sorry, but that’s the truth.
According to RAT “democrazy”, the right to kill babies is this country’s biggest problem.
Yup. That’s Joe Pedo’s biggest problem. He don’t speak to their brains. He mumbles to their skin.
The “problems” are a feature, not a bug. The Democratic Party is a criminal organization with an army the Nazis only dreamed of having...
Why did they create the problems to begin with?
The DungHill is trying to play middle ground just in case DiaperBoy looses.
Lets hope Trump realizes its just a head fake.
We have nothing in common with”progressives”. No shared values. No common goals. They continue to expand government which means our freedom contracts. Their voters demand largess from the Treasury. We want to be left alone (with reasonable and equal application of only a few necessary rules/laws).
The Left promises to provide their voters with necessities for obedience, like the CCP.
“This Reagan and Tip being friends is a bunch of BS.”
You got that right. I remember “amiable dunce” and “Bonzo” and the other smears from the Dems.
That’s the second biggest problem, IMO. The biggest is getting the commies out of the institutions and political process and media and academia and the nation. They are the clear and present danger. They are the cancer. And you don’t use an analgesic on it, you destroy it or it just keeps coming back.
EVERY political compromise has been away from the conservative position and towards the liberal/leftist position. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
They WANT us to "sit down and come together" because that means further progress towards their goals.
