Victor Davis Hanson: A Culture in Collapse
American Greatness ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 01/08/2024 5:37:10 AM PST by MtnClimber

American civilization has been turned upside down, and we have a rendezvous soon with the once unthinkable and unimaginable.

In the last six months, we have borne witness to many iconic moments evidencing the collapse of American culture.

The signs are everywhere and cover the gamut of politics, the economy, education, social life, popular culture, foreign policy, and the military. These symptoms of decay share common themes.

Our descent is self-induced; it is not a symptom of a foreign attack or subterfuge. Our erosion is not the result of poverty and want, but of leisure and excess. We are not suffering from existential crises of famine, plague, or the collapse of our grid and fuel sources. Prior, far poorer, and war-torn generations now seem far better off than what we are becoming.

What is happening to us is not due to an adherence to a too strict conservative tradition but is almost exclusively the wage of the progressive project.

In short, we are seeing fissures that America has not experienced in our cultural history since the Civil War. The radical Left apparently feels such chaos, anarchy, and nihilism are necessary to topple past norms and customs and thereby adhere to a socialist, equity agenda that no one in normal times would stomach.

Some of the decay is existential and fundamental; some anecdotal and illustrative. But either way, while decline came about gradually over decades, its sudden and abrupt chaos during the three years of Biden’s presidency has shocked Americans.

Financial Implosion

As long as interest rates were de facto zero, both parties ran up gargantuan debt. Now the national debt has hit $34 trillion. But two odd things have also happened under the Biden administration that are beginning to undermine the very existence of the U.S. financial system:

“With all this, what do we think the Iranians, Putin’s Russians, the communist Chinese, the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas now think of the United States?”

Remember when FJB had the ‘influencer’ prance around our WH? Can you imagine any other world leader allowing such a thing? Elevating a man in a dress to be the first woman full admiral in the health service? How is anybody to take this administration seriously.

1. Bought rural land in 2005 near like minded neighbors. CHECK
2. Built self-sufficient homestead producing much more than yearly supply of fresh food, eggs, meat. Established multiple preservation methods. CHECK.
3. Extensive free fields of fire, fully armed and supplied, enough said. CHECK.

As for marauders, they will be stopped miles from here. Everybody here shoots, can snipe, and sneak up on or ambush deer, even with deer's’ far superior senses. Humans don't stand a chance.

Land, food, guns, support.

If by the time of Obama, you didn't do this, you're screwed.

“The signs are everywhere...symptoms of decay.”

One need only look at the conditions in once great cities such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore, Detroit - and many more - to see anarchy, decay, crime and decline...

In 1776 we came out of BONDAGE with FAITH, UNDERSTANDING and COURAGE. Even
against great odds, and with much bloodshed, we battled our way to achieve LIBERTY.
LIBERTY is that delicate balance between the force of government and FREEWILL of man.
LIBERTY brings FREEDOM of choice to work, to trade, to go and live where one wishes; it
leads to ABUNDANCE. ABUNDANCE, if made an end to itself, will result in
COMPLACENCY, which leads to APATHY. APATHY is the “let George do it” philosophy.
This always brings DEPENDENCY. For a period of time, dependents are often not aware they
are dependent. They delude themselves by thinking that they are still free — “We never had it so
good.” — “We can still vote, can’t we?” Eventually abundance diminishes and DEPENDENCY
becomes known by its true nature: BONDAGE!!!
There are few ways out of bondage. Bloodshed and war often result, but our founding fathers
learned of a better way. Realizing that a CREATOR is always above and greater than that
which He creates, they established a three vote system by which an informed citizenry can
control those acting in the name of the government. To be a good master you must always
remember the true “pecking order” or chain of command in this nation:
1. GOD created man . . .
2. Man (that’s you) created the Constitution . . .
3. Constitution created government . . .
4. Government created corporations . . . etc.
The base of power was to remain in WE THE PEOPLE but unfortunately, it was lost to those
leaders acting in the name of the government, such as politicians, bureaucrats, judges, lawyers, etc.

Seems we are observing a reenactment of Sodom and Gomorrah in 1845 BC. Maybe the Wrath of God is upon us.

Is VDH still promoting the ridiculous idea that the Uke invasion was the start of a revanchist Soviet Union. I pretty much lost all respect for him after he misread that situation so badly.

As someone just said to me, if we don’t get Trump as 47, we are done, we will rapidly become Venezuela.

“...we are seeing fissures that America has not experienced in our cultural history since the Civil War..”

I think the split now is far worse than Civil War. We came together and reconciled after that. There is zero chance of that happening this time.

Exactly. People have followed their own lusts and away from God. Then these same people who sin and promote sin turn around and wonder why their society has fallen. There's a saying that's a little different in other societies but rings true, if a man can betray someone close to him, imagine what he'd do to people that were not. DC is filled with filth and perversions. It all started with lust, porn and the acceptance of cheating.

No, those were accelerants.

None of it would have been possible without Woodrow Wilson and the Sixteenth Amendment. The 16th gave the impression that there is this almost endless pool of suckers to bleed for corrupt politicians to spend like water.

I have to agree but it probably goes back even further than that. It has been a continuum.
