Report: Despite Billions in Government Investments, Electric Vehicles ‘Piling Up on Dealer Lots’
Breitbart ^ | 12/27/2023 | John Binder

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are “piling up on dealer lots” as American consumers continue buying traditional gas-powered cars at faster rates, the Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the Journal, despite major investments from the federal government and automakers into EVs, Americans are not warming to President Joe Biden’s green energy agenda the way the administration and the industry had predicted.

The Journal reports:

As a result, electric cars and trucks are piling up on dealer lots, causing auto companies to reassess their investment plans. It takes a dealership around three weeks longer to sell an EV than a gasoline vehicle, according to data from car-shopping website Edmunds. A year ago, battery-powered models were selling faster than their gasoline counterparts. [Emphasis added]

Lot rot is different. Tires go flat or develop flat spots, batteries die, cars get dinged while moving them around on the lot and vinyl tops develop leaks or suffer UV damage. They are exposed to rain, wind and debris blowing around and it all takes a toll. After a year on the lot, your brand new auto isn’t pristine anymore.

nobody wants a “parts bin” electric car.

They want a quality built for electric - Thus Tesla has come out the winner.

Government shouldn’t be stealing taxpayer money to subsidize this.

“Electric Vehicles ‘Piling Up on Dealer Lots”

Except for the ones people want.

The rest are crap, at any price.

I would buy one if:

1. There were multiple rapid charging stations at every gas station.
2. Lifetime free battery replacement program.
3. Built in fire suppression systems.
4. Cost $50 K or under.

IOW, I’ll never buy one.

Its a way over priced automobile that does not come close to the dependability of what we are currently using and the reason given for wanting to switch is a liberal lie.

What’s actually rotting on the lots are the $90-100K Pickups and SUVS.

Nobody is ever gonna pay that, for those vehicles.

Now comes the hard part.

There are higher insurance costs on EV as well. I suspect the Feds are (or will be) putting pressure on insurance companies to subsidize their EV rates by overcharging ICE vehicles. Ditto higher license fees for ICE vehicles, higher gas taxes, etc. Most changes will happen after the 2024 “election”.

A year on the lot? At that point it’s a used car. Down here in Florida I’m not seeing cars sit around that long. If they are on the lot longer then a month it’s rare. Not talking about EVs per se, just cars in general.

If everyone owned an EV then that would remove the only reason most people buy an EV: exclusivity.

It would be the same if everyone wore a Rolex.

It all depends on the electric car. Far too many of them are crap. The good ones sell just fine. Tesla is going to deliver 1.8 million this year - all sold at a profit.

They are piled up here. They don’t have room to put another vehicle on the lot. It looks like a maze. many many cars/trucks are just blocked in. I would think some it would take an hour to get one out near the back of the lot. The dealers owe interest on these unsold vehicles. I expect some to go BK before long.
