A lawsuit attempting to punish the FDA for denouncing ivermectin as a COVID cure could have dangerous consequences
In 2021, a bizarre cure for COVID-19 began to emerge on social media, the anti-parasite drug ivermectin. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now under fire for its efforts to refute claims that the drugs could stop the deadly virus.
A group of doctors is now suing the FDA, saying the agency’s efforts to refute claims about the drug’s effectiveness against COVID caused them personal harm. Some experts fear that punishment the FDA could face for refuting false information about the drug could undermine public health messaging in America.
After a questionable later-retracted study claiming ivermectin could cure COVID emerged in 2021, many Americans began to seek it out. It especially became popular among people in communities that were skeptical of the COVID-19 vaccines and other pandemic measures such as masking and social distancing.......
“FDA decided to target that practice via the ‘horse’ message—and others like it. The messaging traveled widely across legacy and online media,” they write in their suit. “Left unmentioned in most of the messaging: ivermectin also comes in a human version. And while the human version of ivermectin is not FDA-approved to treat the coronavirus, some people were using it off-label for that purpose.”
Christopher Robertson, J.D., Ph.D. and Tina Watson, legal experts from Boston University, write in the New England Journal of Medicine that “If the case against the FDA ultimately prevails, the agency’s ability to protect the public and support evidence-based medicine could be eroded.”
They describe the Fifth Circuit's decision as “puzzling”. Judges in the case write that the FDA does not have the authority to endorse, denounce or advise on medical decisions — just the power to inform or announce.

Like the FDA and CDC have done anything good for public health?
Exactly….
…. New England Journal of Medicine that “If the case against the FDA ultimately prevails, the agency’s ability to protect the public and support evidence-based medicine could be eroded.” …..
Hilarious, that they even attempt to claim this is what FDA has even tried to do.
Just the opposite, of course.
Shut. It. Down.
“A lawsuit attempting to punish the FDA for denouncing ivermectin as a COVID cure could have dangerous consequences”
Yeah, for the FDA ... like maybe defunding them
A lawsuit isn’t going to “undermine” the credibility of these “professional medical ‘experts’” ... they did that all by themselves.
Exactly!
In other words, “those in government that engaged in overreach don’t want to be held accountable for their actions”. Got it.
They assumed authority that they don’t have and threatened doctors with having their license revoked as punishment for going against their narrative. So much for the “not being in between you and your doctor” - used by the left every time there’s a discussion on abortion.
They describe the Fifth Circuit’s decision as “puzzling”. Judges in the case write that the FDA does not have the authority to endorse, denounce or advise on medical decisions — just the power to inform or announce.
It wasn’t puzzling and it wasn’t grey. The courts told the FDA that they shouldn’t be involved in medical decisions and politics. The FDA lied, they used the apparatus of government to mislead the public about alternative medical treatments as a option. Physicians are sued because that violates informed consent, not explaining options and alternative treatments to patients. The Government decided to play doctor, they should be liable for denying alternative treatments. It’s actually not puzzling.
PS: My enlightenment didn't start with COVID, but when my doctor tried to get me to stop Keto a couple of years before COVID - although it had dropped my weight by 40 pounds, dropped my blood pressure 30 points and improved all my blood work!
Going on Keto (and fasting) may have saved my life when COVID hit, although the "Medical Establishment" did its best to CONCEAL the strong link between obesity and COVID deaths!
“some hoping to cash it on the ivermectin craze”
I have horses. My Ivermectin was bought at $7/tube. Don’t know if it helped when I finally caught COVID in 2022, but it sure didn’t hurt!
No “profit motive” with $7 tubes of medicine...
I've said all along: Post-Fauci Flu, I remain in awe of what medical professionals do ... I simply no longer take at face value anything they say ... anything!
The arguments that the Department of Justice is using against Trump for questioning the 2020 election can also be used against the FDA and its officials for disputing and deriding the decisions of medical professionals to use Ivermectin to treat patients with COVID.
These fiends should be imprisoned for life. Many premature deaths thanks to them.
Any medical authority who used the term “horse paste” should be held accountable.
all misinformation is equal, but some misinformation is more equal than others 🤔
But the article says 2021, not 2020. It was the talk of the town in 2020. No one applied for emergency use. Trump didn’t fast track it like he did the vaxes. And it seems it wasn’t part of his treatment regimen when the virus caught up to him.
That “Bizare Cure” has helped me and family to get over most colds flues and covid over the last 3 or so years (how long has covid 19 been around now?). I begin to feel crappy, and by evening, it dawns on me that I have the ivermectin, (takes me awhile to remember I have it lol), I tske it, and literally by the next morning I’m feeling much better- the second dose really wipes it out a day later.
A pox on those that maligned ivermectin and prevented people from getting it and at least adding it to their medical regimes forced on them by employers or hospitals or whatever! Those folks who aligned ivermectin need to face trial for very possibly being responsible for many many deaths that very likely could have been prevented with the additi9n of ivermectin to their meds for colds and viruses.
WTF are you babbling about now?
You should try to put a coherent thought together sometime instead of baffling word salad.
I’ve lost 2 employees and a subcontractor, from my previous business, so yes, I’m angry.
Since the Wuhan Red Death my attitude towards corporate medicine had gone from general ambivalence to visceral distrust
They don’t like civil litigation? Find a state Attorney General who will impanel a grand jury to charge them with murder. Maybe they will like that better.
