Trump asking allies about possibility of Nikki Haley for vice president

Former President Donald Trump has been asking allies and advisers for their thoughts about Nikki Haley as a potential vice presidential candidate, two sources familiar with the conversations tell CBS News.

The feedback from the MAGA crowd regarding putting Haley on the ticket if Trump wins the GOP nomination has been overwhelmingly negative, according to these GOP sources. Politico first reported that Trump allies are working to quash the possibility of a Trump-Haley ticket.

Probably a deal breaker for me. Maybe she could say something to convince me otherwise, but she's already said enough to convince me she's Romney in heels. Trump will be 78 on Inauguration Day 2025 - his VP nominee must be someone I trust to be president, and Haley ain't it.

If Trump has grown in the art of politics, he might be “asking allies” (and making sure that the asking gets back to Haley), to cause her to curb her enthusiasm for criticizing him. He can leave his options open.

Why would Trump feel compelled to improve? He doesn't think he ever did anything wrong.

Anyone connected in any way with GOP big donors or the political establishment must be an automatic no. Trump’s number one priority in choosing a vice presidential candidate, as well as in staffing his administration MUST be to choose outsiders who won’t turn into stealth spies or manipulators. Only solid MAGA true believers who will be 100% loyal should be considered.

He needs a proven leader, a strong MAGA enthusiast, someone who will continue what he has started.

He needs someone who will bring him votes.

He already has the MAGA voters. And he'll get the "former Trump" DeSantis voters as well.

It's the "I'm a Republican but I really hate Donald Trump" voters who he's going to have to close the deal with.

Nikki Haley is a pragmatic choice, whether people like it or not (and I'm no Nikki Haley fan, believe me).
