Kristi Noem is my top pick -- and likely the top contender -- for Trump's running mate.

Uh…no. I used to like her, until she turned straight up establishment on several issues.

The VP candidate is going to be a party establishment figure. That's the way it's always been -- because the nominee doesn't pick his running mate (the party leadership does).

I'd also point out that it's been years since the GOP has selected a running mate in a presidential election who was a former competitor for the nomination against the nominee. I believe 1980 was the last time that happened. I'm no fan of the GOP leadership but I believe this is a wise approach to selecting a running mate.

Kristi Noem brings so much more to the table than Haley (or any other GOP contender in this race) -- and she already endorsed Trump months ago.
