Two of the hostages killed were Yotam Haim, who the IDF said was kidnapped from Kibbutz Kfar Aza and Samer Talalka, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Am. Both were taken by Hamas on Oct. 7. The third hostage’s family, when notified, requested that his name not be broadcast, the statement said.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says during battles in northern Gaza’s Shejaiya this morning, Israeli troops mistakenly identified three Israeli hostages as a threat and opened fire at them, killing them.

Hagari says the IDF bears responsibility for the “tragic incident.”

“This is an area where the soldiers encountered many terrorists, including suicide bombers,” he adds.

Hagari names the hostages as Yotam Haim, who was abducted by Hamas from Kfar Aza, and Samar Talalka, who was abducted from Nir Am. The third hostage was not named following requests by their family.

Asked how the hostages were able to escape Hamas captivity, Hagari says the military believes that “the three fled or were abandoned by the terrorists who held them captive.”

In his statement, Hagari says that “after the shooting, during a scan and examination, an immediate suspicion arose regarding the identity of the dead, and their bodies were quickly transferred for examination in Israel, where the hostages were identified.”

“This is a sad and painful event for all of us, and the IDF bears responsibility for everything that happened,” he says.

Hagari says the IDF immediately began to investigate the incident. “This is a tragic event, which took place in a battle zone where the troops encountered many terrorists in recent days, and today, and fought hard battles,” he says.

Israeli weapons may have killed them, but Hamas stole them from their homes and put them in front of those weapons. Hamas did everything it could to confuse enemy and friendly on that battlefield. Hamas is responsible for those deaths.

3xactly- Good Post- Hamas killede them- they would never have been killed by mistake IF Hamas had not kidnapped them in the first place- ALL blame falls on Hamas-

While tragic, The enemy is still out and about and needs eliminating- There will no doubt be casualties of the war from time to time- but war is NOT a paint by numbers book with clear instructions, and in the chaos of war- mistakes will happen- but again- mistakes like this would never have happened if hamas had not kidnapped them-

Very true.

Prayers up for the hostages. RIP.

And prayers for their loved ones and for the IDF who were forced into this situation.

I concur.
There would be no Israeli nor Palestinian casualties, no property destruction or humanitarian suffering if not for the actions of Hamas. They are solely responsible.

The people who held them are none too bright. Deliver them safely and they get brownie points. These hostage takers will be identified through prisoner interrogations and probably killed out of hand.

Awful for all concerned. The IDF, the deceased hostages, their families and the people of Israel.

the hostages were killed by hamas... not the IDF... the IDF was trying to save the hostages... collateral damage in time of war.

No its just clear murder. Whether the IDF physically killed them matters not. They would not have been there if they had not been illegality kidnaped and transported there.

Once Hamas unlawfully took these people they assumed full responsibility for their welfare. The IDF has no blood on their hands and Hamas is 100% responsible for their deaths.
