A black Alabama man who had been tasered by a white cop and arrested for trafficking fentanyl is now sharing his harrowing story.
Officer Dana Elmore was seen on camera swearing and tasing Micah Washington, 24, with a stun gun while he was in handcuffs.
He was charged with trafficking fentanyl, but the charge and its accompanying $500,000 bond were dropped after 'further testing' showed the substance in his possession was not the opioid drug.
In an interview with ABC, Washington revealed what had happened during the incident and explained that he had never had a run-in or issue with police before.
'I try to act okay, but I am really traumatized. I don't know how to feel about police now.'
He told the channel that he and his brother were changing a flat tire on the side of the road near his aunt's home when Elmore approached and asked to see his ID.
By then, Washington began to ask what was wrong and why he had to show his ID while complying with her order.
'I was respectful saying yes ma'am, no ma'am,' he said.
'She asked me to go stand in the back of the car but I was like I'm not being detained and I don't have to do anything.
'She grabbed me and I was standing between the back door and driver door, trying to turn my camera on and record her but she tased me for the first time and put her foot in my back after I fell.'
As soon as Washington fell, his brother, Shikeem Washington, began to record the video and on his request, his friend went to get the victim's aunt.

No the cop has no right to demand ID unless they have articuable suspicion of a crime. You can tell them to eff off. They can’t touch you either its assault.
This guy will be getting a nice fat settlement and deservedly so.
Reasonable cause for ID is an articuable crime. Otherwise you dont have to do jack. If a cop pulls you over and cannot articulate an offense you do not have to ID.
If they do artiUlate a traffic offense you are only obligated to show license, registration and insurance which you can hold up to a closed window for them to look at. You do not have to roll down your window, get out of your car or answer any questions. Traffic offenses are not crimes.
Not if you're rich with expensive attorneys, or are powerful and well-connected, or belong to a powerful and well-connected community, or are able to bring the media in on your side.
When this angry coward cop runs into someone who laughs at tasers she’s gonna find out. She clearly is on a power trip and pushes situations to her one sided violence.
You can try that, but the officer does not have to tell you anything. It may be best for him to do so, but there could be reasonable reasons for him not to.
He only needs to be able to justify to a judge that he had reasonable cause. So, it’s up to you, if you don’t think he had reasonable cause to get a lawyer.

You’re still living in 1970. Everyone has dash cam and/or cell phone video. Most cops wear body cams. They know if they eff up its going to go badly for them.
Cops are getting fired all over the country for this stuff and police departments are getting terrible publicity on YouTube. This is a good thing. They are behaving themselves better now.
It pays to know your rights and to be able to articulate them to a police officer so that they understand that you know it and record every interaction. The police cannot just do anything they want to on the side of the road. That’s a fallacy.
I’m not living in the 1970’s. Yes, they are behaving better, but the law does not state that they have to tell you anything. They only have to be able to justify to the judge, should it end up going before the judge.
Yes, if you think your rights have been violated, get a lawyer.
I only state what I know from what I’ve been able to find out. Officers need reasonable cause to ask for ID and to detain you, but they are not obligated to tell you what that reasonable cause is. That’s the law. They need it, but they not obligated to tell you.

I do too. Unfortunately it is the tax payers who will foot the bill, not the sadistic cop or the one who put her in that place.
Torturing a man who is already handcuffed and subdued?? Did he even put up a big fight? It looks like she is the criminal here...just with wearing a uniform that she was permitted to wear. She should be prosecuted. Unfortunately, time and again the way the system works is that she will go on a paid vacation/"suspension", while the public cools down and forgets about it. Then the prosecutor and the judge quietly lets her go, and she is back on the job after 6 months.
My dad taught me that cops might abuse their power. But since they have a gun and you dont its best to just do what they say and hash out any problems later. And keep your mouth firmly shut.
Hopefully there are cameras, because it’s not impossible that he’s not telling the entire truth. There are too many of these situations where the young black man gives a credible story of having done nothing, but then cameras shows that he was fighting the officers for all he was worth.
IN Texas, the officer has that right ONLY after a lawful detention for a violation of the penal code or traffic violation. Not just because of a hunch or a “feeling”. They can’t demand ID “just because”.
Sounds like somebody licks boots without a command......

She wouldn’t have been “dealing” with him at all if she hadn’t approached and demanded to know who he was when he was just working on changing a tire.

And I'd add that the right thing to do is often easier.
if you are a suspect in a crime, you sure can be asked for your id, if you fit the id, clothes, you’re in the area, yeah, the cop CAN ask you for your id.
I know someone who got sued for doing that, he won.
If the officer cannot articulate a reasonable suspicion of a crime to you then you do not have to ID or roll down your window or get out of your car. Period. That’s the law.
As I’ve mentioned, they only need to satisfy the judge that they had reasonable cause. That’s the law. They don’t have to tell you.
