Ok, I do not get the watermelon thing.

Explanations would be welcome.

The addition of the watermelon wasn't some folksy, farm-y touch, it was an obvious wink and a nod to the "from the river to the sea" crowd, who use the watermelon emoji to show their solidarity with Hamas. Nothing says "Let's celebrate the birth of the Christ child" like an anti-Jewish smear on display to the public.

Another use of the watermelon:

A reference to the Greenies - green on the outside, red on the inside.

I call college towns "Watermelonville".

Jewish people don’t buy Christmas trees, so there’s that. Why would they put up a purposely offensive sign, when the people they hope to trigger won’t even see it? IMO, they’re not too bright.

Going back 30-35 years, if for nothing elst, a chili hot dog & long neck fix at the Vienna Inn, I occasionally traveled to Vienna, Virginia.
On one such trip I passed Cox Farms produce & garden outlet. Then a fairly simple operation as opposed to the multi-location haven for the nouveau rich ISO their grandparents “fruit stand” it became.
On one such occasion, I noticed a sign advertising their latest whatever. Likewise forget the entire message but salient wording was “You can’t lick Cox for fresh produce”.
A quick in/out trip, noted on the return that the sign had been removed. Not sure if that location is still a Cox operation but every subsequent trip stirs memory of that long ago sign.
