Just when you thought there were no parts of your life not already under the thumb of the federal government, a new idea emerges.

This time it comes from the National Transportation Safety Board and it involves outsiders having control of the gas pedal in your car.

While you're driving, of course.

The proposal from the NTSB is to install "intelligent speed assistance" tech in all cars, a system that uses a car's GPS location and local speed limit postings "to help ensure safe and legal speeds."

Shades of Michael Hastings.

I see lots of enemies of the Deep State Globalists having "unfortunate, software glitch" demises.

“ALL vehicles under 10K pounds are required to have stability control. These are active shocks and struts controlled by a computer.”

Shock and struts don’t have anything to do with stability control as the term is used in the industry.

They would rather have your road rage at the person driving 50-55, then have you pass in the safe manner.

In Hawaii state it is illegal to exceed the posted speed limit to pass.
I got a ticket for that once, 70 in a 55 zone.
But Hawaii is a VERY blue state and run buy idiots that belong back in mainland Chinese or mainland Japanese societies.

Next, government control over your door locks and that little cylinder of nerve gas that comes with every new model.

โ€œ My understanding is that you are not technically allowed to exceed the speed limit ever, and that includes passing.โ€

Then, why does my speedometer go to 140 MPH??

Leave my Mustang alone!!

So, was the car explosion at the Niagara Falls’ border crossing a stuck gas pedal or terrorism or another Hastings event?

” the main reason is that those cars are far cooler than modern cars. “

I do get asked about my cars every time I go to the gas station.
But functionality and repairbility are also very high on the list. I can keep them on the road forever.

I agree. But most of the crime and mischief being created by the little snotty-nosed rug rats these days is generated over the cellphones.

“Then, why does my speedometer go to 140 MPH??”

When the US speed limit was just 55 mph, the speedometer went all the way to 85 mph. It really pissed people off.

When I got my new car, a Crown Vic, I was tooling down the highway with my foot in the position I used on my old, old Dodge. I noticed I was silently gliding past more and more vehicles. I looked down and discovered I didn’t have a speedo needle. I was certain there had been one before. Then, I noticed it was WAY off to the right pointing at the “y” in “Use Unleaded Fuel Only.” I have no idea how fast that was. Certainly, worth one heck of a violation ticket.

I was doing telematics software in 2001. It was at a startup called Wingcast (Ford+Qualcomm) seeking to compete with OnStar. I had quite a range of control over the vehicle data buses to control lights, horns, displays, door locks, monitor speed and capture current GPS position. That was all in the scope of the product offering. I suspect there was a much broader range of access that I wasn't exploiting as it didn't serve the needs of the contract. I also had access to accelerometers that could do crash detection. The human factors designer asked if the radio could do scrolling displays. I sent him out for lunch and on return showed the display scrolling, "Attention K-Mart Shoppers". That immediately became a forbidden feature.

Current systems allow for remote start. The really high end ones have for more access than I had in 2001. Controlling the accelerator is a scary capability. Made to order for remote kill by running the speed UP and preventing the driver from dealing with it. Running it all the way down and shutting down the engine is also bad news...especially if the vehicle is in a high speed freeway lane.

They make the baby boomers all look like rocket scientists, which by the way, many of us are.

I worked for a rocket scientist for a while. My project was providing a smart capability to a government entity in Florida. The system I built had full access to the SCADA systems controlling and monitoring water systems. Temperature, salinity, turbidity, flow rates, levels. Access to pump motors and gates. I added an expert system capability that allowed changing the level of a "water body" with full consideration for inflow rates, outflow rates, allowed levels based on tidal tables and real time weather inputs. It was a fun project. My boss at the time had some interesting hardware on his desk oriented to separation between stages of the rocket.
