China's People's Liberation Army - Navy ship "Longushan" is reportedly ablaze just off the coast of China tonight. The vessel is reported to be "China's most advanced warship."
No OFFICIAL word on what caused the fire. I am not sure if China has acknowledged the fire yet ...
All mention of this is being rapidly scrubbed from China social media networks, and no official information is coming out of Beijing.
The vessel bears Hull Number 980 and is described as a Type 071 landing ship.
China's fifth Type 071 amphibious transport dock (LPD) Longhushan; with hull number 980) was commissioned with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) on September 12, 2018 in Shanghai.
Originally designed after the Taiwan Strait crisis in 1996, the Type 071, measuring 210 meters long and 28 meters wide, is capable of carrying an 800-man marine battalion and some 20 amphibious tanks.

A ship almost 700 feet long, 90 feet wide. They are going to load it with 800 troops and 20 tanks, and sail it across 100 miles of the Strait to invade Taiwan. And does anyone believe that it will make the crossing without being targeted by a torpedo carrying drone or a cruise missile along the way? This sounds like a really bad idea, but hey, let them knock themselves out.
On Tuesday, footage was posted to the Chinese social media app Weibo showing a PLAN Type 071 landing ship billowing out black smoke from various parts of the vessel.
By the time the footage hit X, a whirlwind of rumors began claiming that the ship was on fire, however, what we are most likely seeing a smokescreen exercise or damage control drill.
We have previously seen black obscurant be used by Type 071 landing ships and other PLAN vessels before, with crews placing smoke canisters on various parts of the vessels. The is opposed to the white obscurant used by naval vessels at sea that we are typically used to seeing during smoke screens.
So at least one sympathizer is claiming that all of this black smoke is intentional ... YMMV.
