Reminds me of Anthony Swafford narrating his true story book "Jar Head"...when a soldier found out that his wife was cheating on him while he was deployed...did the same thing. Tragic. No words...cept...his pain has finally ended.

A married US Navy officer and father-of-two has died by suicide while his ship was moored in Cleveland, Ohio. Commander Jonathan Michael Volkle was found dead on board the USS Marinette on October 27, the Navy confirmed. The 44-year-old 'was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased,' a statement from US Surface Force Atlantic said. 'Our thoughts go out to the Volkle's family during this incredibly difficult period, and we would ask their privacy be respected. 'Littoral Combat Ship Squadron (LCSRON) 2 is providing chaplain and mental health support to the ship's crew. Cmdr. Janet Brooms will be assigned as executive officer.' The second in command of the Littoral Combat Ship had served in the Navy after enlisting in 2007, working as a career surface warfare officer.

Swofford’s book isn’t a true story. Except true in that he deployed to Saudi Arabia. The rest is bullshit. He cobbled together every single rumor that swept the Marine divisions and wrote about it like it was his personal story.

I never understood why someone cheating on you would make you want to off YOURSELF. I could envision offing a number of potentials in this scenario, but I never once put myself on that list.
The pain of the loved ones left behind IS a pain that never end .

Odd. I thought the US Navy had resolved to cut its losses and decommission all of these Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) types. In reading up, maybe just the first block they built.
Shocking, though that they decided to already decommission a bunch of the first block. In modern peacetime, I can’t recall that happening. The Navy wanted to decommission even more, but Congress wouldn’t let them. Probably had something to do with support and shipyard contracts that would be affected, and they wouldn’t allow it for political reasons...just a guess.
Apparently, the vessels are poorly defined for a mission that they found doesn’t really exist. A Charlie Foxtrot all around.
As for this guy-sad all around. There is something seriously wrong with the US Navy these days. I fully understand the overdeployment and degrading equipment because shipyards are so backed up, but it seems like this stuff is more than that.

I’m going through that now since my only son took his life in June. It’s a hell that never ends and, for the first time in my life, I welcome death.

Very sad story. And the article said there have been many more suicides of Navy personnel recently.
Something is definitely wrong.
